The sky is of utmost importance when you're living in a tent. For years we scheduled a vacation during the August meteor showers. This top picture is of an eclipse of the moon.

One of the best times of the day in the woods is early morning. The birds are announcing their presence to anyone who will listen and all of the little wild things are already up and about their day's business.

This is the Harrison Crawford State Forest where we took that magical nine day backpacking vacation. We saw deer, wild turkeys and foxes. Not to mention more racoons than I knew existed in all of Indiana, 'possoms and at least one very agressive skunk! We also saw multicolor fireflies and strange lights that rose up out of the Ohio River valley and on up into space - but that's a whole different story and I don't know you well enough to let you call me crazy!
And this was our first night's camp site. We didn't stay in the cabin because there is no door and the local racoons consider it their personal refrigerator. That night a skunk chased us into our tent (the domed one - the other was for our packs)
We wound up staying here three days, while we ate up all the heavy stuff we'd packed!
Our main reason for camping, besides getting away from it all, is fishing. Here's my hubby after a hard day's work wrestling catfish with an ultralight! For those of you who are squemish, you might note that he's carrying no fish. We practice catch-&-release.

Actually, I just really hate cleaning fish.
Of course, sometimes you can't catch them no matter what you do.
Sometimes you can't even get to them.
