Three Class Concepts
Identity:

Our identity is our basic building block of social interaction.  We are able through interacting with others to shape our identity better.  On the Internet identity is questionable.  Who some says they are over the Internet might not be true.  We read an article in class titled Communities in Cyberspace that discusses this issue in detail.  You should check out the article!

Reflexivity:

The process of standing back from, critically reflecting upon, and changing one?s position when faced by the better argument. This is an internal process and it changes in people?s positions and it takes place over long periods of time.  This concept is discussed in an article titled Computer-Mediated Communication and The Public Sphere: A Critical Analysis.

Asynchronous Mass Communication:

The Internet is not like any other mass communication.  You don?t actually meet the person and get that synchronous mode of interaction.  The Internet is a misleading interaction.  You get a textual form of interaction rather than through speech.  This concept is discussed in an article titled Personal Home Pages and the Construction of Identities on the Web.
