Lemme make this clear now, since I haven't before. Hayashibara Megumi is the best seiyuu (voice actor) ever, or at least she's my favorite. When you have 60+ episodes with her in it, it's just more awesomeness. Oh, and the 2nd Op is just simply amazing.
Plotline - The plot is hard to tell without ruining it, but basically the 3 series are interconnected except not. They refer to a lot of things from the previous series, but not really important to the plot of the current series you're watching. Anyway, basically it's all about Lina Inverse, a really short tempered but powerful Magician who steals from the rich, beats up bandits, and keeps all the loot to herself. She happens to bump into a skilled swordsman named Gourry during one of her raids, and he decided to become her guardian because he thinks she needs protection. Not much of a intro plotline... but it gets really deep and I don't want to spoil it.
What I thought of it? This is one of the most classical anime's ever made. After watching all 3 series, the OVA's, the extra episodes, and 5 movies, I must say... Slayers is freaking awesome. I must have underestimated how good Slayers really is from first glance. It just doesn't only have action, it has good humor. I haven't laughed so hard since GTO, during the second season. If I didn't mention already, there's 3 Seasons, and a buncha other crap. There's also 2 timelines. If you're still confused, which you should be, I'll lay it out for you.
Present Timeline: The Slayers (Season 1) - Slayers Next (Season 2) - Slayers Try (Season 3)
Past Timeline: Slayers perfect (Movie 1) - Slayers Return (Movie 2) - Slayers Great (Movie 3) - Slayers Gorgeous (Movie 4) - Slayers OVA (3 Episodes) - Slayers Excellent(3 Episodes) - Slayers Premium (Short 30 Minute Movie 5).
The present timeline tells of Lina's adventures in the present, while the movies and OVA's tell of her past. You never find out what happens in between the past and present, but I'm sure you can take a guess by the end of Season 3. I have to tell you though, the movies are COMpLETELY different from the TV series. Many people do not like them at all, because the pace is so different. Sadly, I kind of agree here... but the movies are not totally horrid. On the bright side, Megumi plays the lead role of Lina Inverse, so everything is all good! I was really sad when it all ended though. Why did it end!?!? There is a parallel universe of Slayers though, like Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles. That is Lost Universe, which Megumi also stars in. Anyway...
There's 3 reasons to watch this.
1. With Season 1 being character introductions, Season 2 being funny fluffy humor, and Season 3 being the dramatical conclusion, you can't go wrong here. Season 2 humor is right next to Fumoffu and GTO, IMO.
2. The character development is amazing. Right next to CCS and pita Ten, you'll fall in love with the characters in Slayers. My favorite is Zelg and Amelia after Season 2. Oh man, it was freaking hilarious.
3. Megumi plays the lead role. Enough said! The songs are really awesome too. The second Op has amazingly made it to my top 5 songs list.
