Lunar 2:Eternal Blue

Sort of like an "anime" game, Lunar 2 was originally made in Japan.

Lunar 2 IMO, is one of the best anime type games that I've ever played. Anybody who hasn't played it, probably won't like it as much as I do since it's kinda old (Hardly anybody likes old games anymore). Anyway, I'll begin by introducing the characters!

Hiro - The main hero person guy.

Lucia - The star of this game, the goddess of awesomeness, the almighty Lucia! Yeah, before I got addicted to anime, I used to worship Lucia and this game. Anyway, Lucia is also known as the "Princess of the Blue Star", which also makes a little bit of reference to Lunar 1 (People should play that too).

Ruby - Many people think that this creature is a flying cat, but maybe there's more to it!? (Female)

Ronfar - A gambler type of person, also a past time priest.

Lemina - First thing I have to say about Lemina is that Megumi voice acted for her in the japanese version. Other than that, she's your typical "magical" type girl with a wand.

Jean - Here's something out of the ordinary. A dancing gypsy girl with.. fans! She goes through some sorta transformation later, but enough with the spoilers.

There's some more characters, but they contain spoilers so enough of the pictures and onto the game info!

Plotline - Before anime, there was only games and movies. This game qualifies as one of those awesome RPG games that you'll remember for the rest of your life (Or at least in my case). The plotline is just amazing... lemme give you a brief overview. Since it follows the timeframe after Lunar 1, it's kinda confusing at some points (Honestly, I beat Lunar 2 first, and then beat Lunar 1 and it still made sense, kinda.. but it's still better to play Lunar 1 first).

Anyway, the plotline begins with Hiro and his companion Ruby looking for old artifacts in an abandoned mine. Meanwhile, Lucia is awakened on the Blue Star (Which is sorta like the moon) and senses immenent danger, so she decides to travel down to earth. Hiro's grandpa guy tells him that the watch tower in the distance is acting weird so Hiro decides to investigate. By an amazing stroke of luck, Hiro finds Lucia at the top of the watchtower. Needing an escort to journey to this big city place, Lucia has Hiro travel with her. On their way down from the tower, Lucia is attacked by a great evil force and she is cursed! Now being around the same strength Hiro is, Hiro decides to stick with her until she recovers. And so, their journey begins.

Gameplay - For those of you that are familiar with the "Select all your attack plans before anything happens!" type combats, then you should have an idea of what the battle scenes are like. I'll give you a more general idea, for those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about.

Ok, basically, you select if you want to cast a spell, attack, defend, etc... before anything actually happens. Then, depending on your speed and the monsters speed, the speediest person goes first. There's actually strategy involved here, since you can only move a short distance before that characters turn ends. You'd want to plan out how the monsters should die, after you figure out a general idea of how much HP they have and have each character attack certain monsters. Anyway, That's pretty much how all of the battles work out. Not really anything special, but still pretty cool.

Graphics - Since I'm an anime fan and all, I have to say that this game had awesome graphics for a PS1 game. Of course the CGI scenes I have above are all smudged and crap, so it doesn't look as good as the real thing. Anyway, this game is pretty anime like, I'd say. Nothing else I can really say about the graphics... other than that you shouldn't judge a game by it. There's also vocals, which is another plus! Here's your typical "Hmm, I seemed to have walked into the wrong bath section" picture.

Overall - I would personally play this game for plot. A certain someone who I argue with a lot would probably make a comment saying how "If I wanted plot, I'd watch anime!", but you just can't find awesome plots like this in anime (Well, maybe some concepts are taken). Lucia is probably the most awesomest female character ever. *Bows down and worships his Lucia poster on the wall*. Ahem... anyway, pretty awesome game that was kind of a sleeper hit (Like Disgaea was). If you liked Lunar 2, be sure to play Lunar 1 as well since Lunar 2 is the sequel. Excuse me while I go worship Lucia more.
