This might be the perfect anime to introduce someone young into the world of anime. Not that it's ment for little kids, it just sometimes feels that way.
Plotline - Honda Tohru is your average happy highschool female. That is until one day, her mother died in a car accident. Not wanting to trouble her grandfather (Or uncle, I forgot.), Tohru told him that she'd be living with her highschool friends. In reality, Tohru set up a tent beside the Souma household and tries to live a normal life. As you know, nobody can live this way... so on her way back from school, Yuki and Shigure (Two people from the Souma family) saw Tohru walking back to her tent. A bit later, Tohru is invited to live with the Souma's. Little does she know that the Souma family has this big deep curse that would change her life forever.
As for this curse deal, you'll find out eventually and it's a huge part of the series, so I'll just explain it now. The Souma family has this one curse that causes them to turn into one of the animals from the Chinese Zodiac whenever they get hugged by someone of the opposite sex. They change back later (naked) after a few minutes or hours. It really doesn't seem like anything special, but it's pretty funny. You really have to see it in order to understand what I'm talking about, and it's a pretty good anime series overall. Other than that, Fruits Basket is a good mix between humor and drama. It has one of those "Berserk" type endings though, where they continue off the manga and never conclude it in the anime. That doesn't mean you shouldn't watch it though!
