Chobits

If you've never heard of this, then obviously you're not a big Clamp fan. This is probably one of Clamp's best works, besides from Card Captor Sakura.

Plotline - Hideki is a farmer who lives in a non-technology area. After finding out that he was rejected to a university he applied for, he decided to take everything he owned and move to Tokyo. Shortly after arriving in Tokyo, he noticed that there was persocons everywhere. persocons are basically computers in the form of humans. Everybody had one, and they even had models for both genders. After settling down in a run down apartment, Hideki wishes that he could afford a persocon for himself. Lucky for Hideki, he finds a persocon by the trash area on his way home from shopping. Deciding that no one owned it, he carries it home with him. Little does he know, that persocon will change his life forever.

In case you were wondering, persocon pretty much translates to "personal Computer", but they use it to refer to the model sized ones in Chobits. This was the first subbed anime I've seen, and I'm glad I saw it. After watching DBZ and Tenchi Muyo dubbed and watching Chobits, I saw that there was a world of difference. Anyway, Chobits is really..... well, I guess the best term would be "Kawaii" or cute, to describe it. In case you haven't figured it out yet, Chii is the persocon that Hideki happens to find. From the first half of the anime, it's really ecchi humor like and not much plot development going on. The second half however, gets really serious and dramatic. The title "Chobits" also plays an important part in this anime, as you will see assuming you watch it.

I would say that Chii is over-rated, but that's just me. I've seen comments from people saying how Chobits was a retarded educational anime that teaches japanese (Which is partly true, I picked up a few words.), and comments saying how this was the best anime ever and how they would kill baby kittens for a second season. I honestly thought the same thing after watching it, but after watching a lot more anime, I would say that it's just "good". If you really want to see what the hype is all about, I would recommend this. The one thing that Chobits lacks though, is action. So if you're one of those people who hates non-action animes, stay faaaaaar away from this. Oh yeah, this is not an anime about pantsu and Chii dressing up in cute dresses. It's more plot involving, and I think it questions society about technology toward the end. Humor, Drama, and Romance... that's what it is! There's 27 Episodes (3 Recaps)and 1 OVA called Chibits that has nothing to do with the Chobits plotline, but has characters from Episodes 18+. If you liked Fruits Basket or Love Hina, I'm sure you'll enjoy Chobits.

My Score: 8.8 / 10

You are listening to: Dark Chii's Theme (Ah ha! I finally found a version of this song without vocals! Muahahaha, I win! Actually, if you listen to the MP3 version of this, you can notice that the voices are just muted out. Not really that big of a deal, but I like to point out tiny details)
