| From Mondo Melomedia,
Desert Roses gives us Middle Eastern and
Maghreb sound. Music has evolved for
centuries of Arab history and now it's
embracing modern technology. A melodic
club mix of Sting and Cheb Mami is
featured on track five-- a song that
pulls western and eastern into a
beautiful mixture of both. Track nine
"Hay Wadi Hay Galbi" is by Cheb
Mami an established Rai talent. He uses
the grain of western over Rai to
effectively show us past language
barriers and eastern dreams. Track six
"Chie Begam" is full of
explosive guitar over Persian lyrics,
crossing cultural boundaries, comprised
of western and eastern musical
characteristics. "La Titnahad"
features Kazem Al-Saher a famous name in
middle-eastern music. He blends classical
Iraqi music with modern influences for a
smooth mix of both. "Desert Roses"
is a hopeful voice of the musical
mingling culture for appreciation of
world music. If you were impressed with
Sting and Cheb Mami Desert Rose as I was,
then this cd is worth your attention. |
