"Fades to Black"
- Carissa Creveling
You say I’m your soul, your heart, in your head,
Your words speak tomes but your face is dead;
Your lips are grey, spewing ashes of thought
From the endless pit where your feelings are wrought,
Your crude dreams forged and your fancies shaped,
Slim morals denied and thoughts left agape.
Your fingers are curled in the semblance of claws –
A wraith’s groping hands, strangling my psyche, you pause
To take and plunder my fragile pale being,
To shred and dismember my hopes and believing
That anything good would bother to pass
And brush up against my trembling mass.
As my soul shatters into a million pieces,
The light goes out and my inner self freezes.
Your expressionless face with its vacuous orbs
Burns into my flesh as your essence absorbs
My blood, my head, my heart, my soul,
As my last sigh of breath flies free of control
And the blackness seeps in as my consciousness fades,
I think, why bother continue this worthless charade?
And it Fades…
…To…
…Black…
There’s a smile on my face…
