Think Before You Judge
I don't know what things have gone on in your life that have shaped who you are and what you believe, however you should advocate those things that you truly have a passion for. But on the same note remember not to judge because someone else's passions are not the same as yours. That does not make them uncaring or ignorant of other things, it simply means there may be another subject that has had a greater impact in their life. Perhaps one that has not directly affected yours.
If you know me and have not taken time to research what Battered Wive's Syndrome is, then do not ridicule me for not taking time to watch the news to find out what happened in Iraq today.
Were you on the bus with the African-American lady and the non-English speaking Asian couple as they were being rudely yelled at by the haughty female busdriver? And did you fill out the complaint form on thier behalf? Then do not judge that I have no concern for what goes on in the world.
If you were not at the restaurant in Ogallala when the waitresses rudely ignored the people from the bus (A-A, Asian, Caucasion, all with varied degrees of wealth) and did not see the heartbreak in some of those eyes then do not judge that I am unaware.
You see, everyone has their own passions. Mine just happen to be the Fight Against Domestic Violence and The Fight Against Discrimination of ANY kind.
I focus on these two issues because they significantly impact my life everyday. I do not watch the news anymore. I become too angry when I see another partner or child killed because the court chooses not to believe or decides to stand up for the "biological rights" of the abuser. And 90% of the stories on the news are discriminatory against someone.
I much prefer taking positive actions when the opportunity arises rather than watching mindless hours of opinion swaying by the media.
Maybe if we use our own brains and pay more attention to what's going on in our own backyard and less attention to what other people think, things like the OJ media circus would not have happened. What? Does the rest of the country who encouraged the media by watching it think they know more than the Jury  that was selected? Discrimination of fellow Americans to make a rational decision. And the country divides on yet another issue. Advocate World Peace when we can't even trust each other to do what's right?

On the surface you see a sullen face and a woman who does not talk much. So judgement falls that she must be ignorant without taking time to understand why she is that way. And you never find out that she wishes desperately to laugh and have someone to talk to. Instead she is still condemned as worthless because she finds nothing funny about the cruel court system that forces her to continue to live in fear for her children so she finds little else to smile about. When she tries to explain to you the way it really is, you tell her she is wrong or call her a liar. So she does not talk anymore. She just does what she believes is right, no longer caring whether you deem her worthy of your time or not. She has a fight to fight, every day, silently with actions, not hollow words.
And as far as judgement goes in her book, there is a reason the abusers are the way they are. The way they grew up, drug problems, mental problems, etc.
They are still human. They are not judged as less than human, they are judged on their ability to interact and if they can't do that they should be restricted from that interaction. If they murder, our original law had a no brainer answer. We prefer to debate why while they walk. While we 'rehabilitate', release, reunion, and then find we need to recapture, children are dying horrible, cruel deaths. Maybe if we'd quit pretending we know it all and close our mouths for a while we could hear the children crying before they die instead of everyone crying on the news after they die. Wake up, people!
