So, this is the glossary, where you can find terminology for any non-english words in my fics. All the words are under category, but, due to lack of time and will, I’m sorry to say I didn’t put them in alphabetical order as well, maybe one day I will, but not know.
I. People/Races:
-Youkai: Demons of the Japanese medieval legends.
-Hanyou: Half-demon(youkai)
-Ningen: Human
-Miko: Priestess
-Houshi: Low level priest
-Rurouni: Errant samurai
-Samurai: Japanese medieval lesser lords and major warriors.
-Taiyoukai: Great youkai, more powerful than most of the others.
II: Weapons:
-Katana: Japanese sword with one edge, usually used by samurai and ninja.
-Tachi: Long sword.
-Wakizashi: Swords used by samurai is a little shorter than a katana. Samurai have on one side a katana and on the other a wakizashi.
-Tetsusaiga (Tessaiga): Also known as Tessaiga(in the anime) is the sword Inuyasha’s and Sesshoumaru’s father left to his younger son(Inuyasha) It has the power to kill a hundred youkai with one strike.
-Tenseiga: Healing sword Sesshoumaru’s and Inuyasha’s father left to his elder son(Sesshoumaru) It can bring back the dead and heal a hundred people in one blow if the heart of the wielder is caring and forgiving.
-Toukijin: Sesshoumaru’s demon sword. It was forged with one of Goshinki’s(one of Naraku’s offspring which could read minds) fangs by Toutousai’s former student Kajinbou(Which was sent away by his sensei for the swords he made were too evil). It has the power to rival Tetsusaiga.
-Banryuu: Bankotsu’s huge halberd.
-Jakotsutou: Jakotsu’s serpent-like extendible sword.
-Nintouyjou: The staff of head Jaken uses as a weapon and that Sesshoumaru used to find his and Inuyasha’s father’s grave.
-Shouki: Naruaku’s black miasma. Not really a weapon, but he does “launch” it against his opponents during battle or when he flees.
III. Attacks:
-Sankon tessou: Inuyasha’s claw attack. Literally it means something like “Claws of steel”.
-Fuujin no mai: Kagura’s wind attack. Literally something like “Wind blades”.
-Ryuujin no mai: Kagura’s tornado attack, the one she used against Kouga, if I’m not wrong.
-Hama: Not really an attack, but since it is the “destruction of evil”, it is very similar to what Kagome does to Shikon shards and what happens when she fires an arrow to a youkai.
IV. Inuyasha in general:
-Shinidama-chuu: Kikyou’s soul stealers.
-Shikon no kakera: Shards of the Shikon no Tama. So literally “kakera” means “shard(s)/fragment(s)”.
-Taiji-ya: Youkai Exterminator (slayer)
-Inu-koro: Means “Dog shit” more or less. That’s how Kouga refers to Inuyasha.
-Shichinin-tai: Seven undead humans mercenaries brought back to life by Naraku. Bankotsu, Jakotsu, Renkotsu, Ginkotsu, Suikotsu, Mukotsu and Kyoukotsu.
-Bozu: How Inuyasha refers to Miroku. Rude way of saying “monk”.
-Goshinboku: God tree, the tree Inuyasha was sealed to by Kikyou.
V. Family/Adressing:
-Minna: Everybody
-Aniki: A way of saying “older brother”.
-Onii-san: Formal way of saying “elder brother”.
-Onee-san: Formal way of saying “elder sister”.
-Otou-san: Formal way of saying “father”.
-Haha-ue: Formal way of saying “mother”.
-Jii-san: The way to addressing old people with respect.
VI. General:
-Jinja: Shrine
-Koishii/Koibito: Beloved
-Aishiteru: I love you
-Demo: But
-Baka: Idiot
-(Domo)Arigatou: Thank you (very much).
-Hokora: Small shrine.
-Ohayu gosaimasu: Good morning.
-Konnichi-wa: Hello/Good afternoon.
-Konban-wa: Good evening.
-Oyasuminasai: Good night.
VII. Animals/holy creatures:
-Toori: Bird
-Inu: Dog
-Ookami: Wolf
-Tenshi: Angel
-Kami: God(s)
VIII. Name Terminology:
-Sesshoumaru: Destruction of life cycle
-Inuyasha: Literally, “Female dog demon”, but, it is to point that in the Indian culture there is a holy spirit called “yasha”, so probably Inuyasha’s name comes from that more than from the Japanese literal translation of “female demon”. The spirit over named is feared by the townspeople, but also worshiped.
-Shikon no Tama: Sphere of the four spirits.
