The story went something like this: The girls were very upset at the guys because the guys monopolized the canoe and raft and wouldn't let the girls come along on the first trip to the island. And so while the boys were away, the girls filled dozens and dozens of water balloons. Their plan was for someone to lead the boys to Berna's car, where Berna and Melissa had hidden water balloons in the trunk of Berna's car. Melissa and Berna were to chase the boys toward the picnic area with water balloons, and there the real ambush begins, where the children and all the girls were waiting with water balloons hidden in several strategic places along the picnic grounds. But it didn't quite happen that way.
First, Ted had guessed something was up when Jen and some of the kids told them that Berna had something to show them at her car. Instead, they headed straight for the picnic grounds. Melissa and Berna then charged from the parking lot with baskets of water balloons, and while the boys ran backwards toward the picnic area, the children launched water balloons at them from behind! The rest of the girls launched their arsenals also from different directions (Jen was stationed with Karen behind a tree next to the grill). Chaos ensued as the guys tried to figure out where the balloons were coming from and chasing the children and the girls, but nothing compared to the chaos when the guys, from out of nowhere, produced numerous super-soakers. The girls ran to the only haven they knew: the girls bathroom. Even though the bathrooms were a ways away from the picnic grounds, you could nonetheless hear the screams of the girls as the guys climed the walls outside and fired through the windows above!
