| "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 |

| Christmas is the celebration of Jesus' birthday. We have made it the longest holiday season of the year for good reason. People seem to be a little kinder, a little more polite, a little more caring and a little happier at Christmas. But when a child asks, "What is Christmas?" How do we answer? A good place to start is with this lovely description by Marie Elmore Baxter. WHAT IS CHRISTMAS? A blazing star above a manger bed, the tramp of shepherd feet, the slow stately tread of camels coming from out the Eastern darkness... Candlelight and music, pageants and prayers, church bells ringing and joyful carols floating out on the crystal-clear air... Silver trees and evergreen wreaths, mistletoe and holly, candy canes, flame-red poinsettias, and the beauty of the Chrismas Rose... The sparkle of happy anticipation in the eyes of children, the warm joys of friendship, the delight of traditional festivities, the nostalgia of cherished memories... The golden radiance of a never-dimming star, the white peace of His love, the evergreen promise of immortality, the silver glow of hope... All of these, and more...are Christmas. |
| When you light the Christmas candle, When you see its golden glow; When you watch the flame grow brighter, When the wax begins to flow; Will you light another candle Way down deep within your soul, That will help to guide your footsteps Ever nearer to your goal As you seek to find the Christ Child When He comes to Earth again To be born, not in a manger, But within the hearts of man.
