6/06/2005Long overdue update
SARKAR is everywhere and has a great opening. A lot of great press for Kay Kay for his portrayal of Vishnu Nagare.
Kay Kay will soon be seen in Ek Khiladi, Ek Haseena directed by Suparn Varma and starring Fardeen Khan and Koena Mitra.
Kay Kay also stars as the Prime Minister in Ketan Mehta's Time Bomb.
The latest in 2005
All the controversy later, Black Friday came and went. Important films like Black Friday need to be made. Just as a record, so we can remember what happened. The fact that there are people out there who might not want to be faced by the truth is a totally different matter. Hats off to everyone involved.
The promos for Ram Gopal Varma's SARKAR are out. It would be very exciting to see Kay Kay play an important role in SARKAR especially as anything with RGV's name on it tends to be both high quality and marketable. Better exposure, better future roles and prospects, we hope. Would also be refreshing to see Amitabh Bacchan in a movie which exploits his tremendous acting potential rather than his name (er, anyone remember Khakee? yawn. me neither.)
Dansh is the first Hindi film to be set entirely in the northeastern state of Mizoram. The story is said to span 40 years. Quoting a film journalist "It begins on the day the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi signed an accord with the Mizo National Front (MNF) chief Laldenga and ends a day and half later. The main protagonist of the film is a spokesperson of the MNF whose wife, a former Mizo militant, was raped by soldiers during the movement. The drama unfolds when a civilian doctor from Mumbai comes visiting."
Then there is Jahnu Barua's yet untitled film (they are thinking of naming it Butterfly Chase or Pashmina). Kay Kay essays the role of a terrorist who abducts a five year old deaf mute girl in Kashmir. The film will focus on the relationship between the two.
Lots of news
A close friend of Kay Kay's reveals that...
1. Kay Kay is doing SARKAR of Ram Gopal Verma with the senior and junior Bacchans. Sarkar is RGV's Godfather. Kay Kay plays the elder brother of Abhishek. He is the notorious son of Amitabh Bacchan. One schedule of the film is completed. The film is bound to gain much attention and recognition particularly because his version of Godfather has always been RGV's dream.
2. Kay Kay has also nearly finished DANSH with Sonali Kulkarni, its directed by Kanika Verma. This film is based on the play 'Death & The Maiden.'
3. Talks are on for one of the greater projects of Assamese director Janoo Barua.
4. Kay Kay has signed Chandan Arora's film tentatively called 'Main Meri Patni Aur Woh' with Rajpal Yadav. Kay Kay plays the Woh. The film will go on the floor this month end.
5. Kay Kay's Black Friday, directed by Anurag Kashyap and based on Mumbai bomb blasts is likely to be released in November.
Praises from the Big B
The news articles about Deewar have been filled with quotes from Amitabh Bachchan praising Kay Kay's confidence and immense talent, stating that he would like to watch all of Kay Kay's films on DVD.
(Gripe: Why is it that news sources (e.g. MusicIndiaOnline), copy the biography on this site word for word and then stick a copyright label at the bottom? Definately annoying.)
More about Black Friday & A rumoured new project 'For Real'
Writer-turned-director Anurag Kashyap's fascination for Mumbai's underworld continues with his next project Black Friday, based on a book of the same name by journalist S Hussain Zaidi. The book, Black Friday: the True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts, is a real account of the March 1993 bomb explosions in the city.
The film goes on the floors in October. Actor Kay Kay Menon will play Rakesh Maria, the Mumbai police officer who cracked the case. Irfan Khan of the award-winning The Warrior, plays police witness Badshah Khan.

A quick search on Google reveals that Kay Kay might be part of a movie 'For Real' written, directed and produced by Sona Jani. The movie is said to be about an upper middle class Indian family's life is seen through the eyes of the 6 year old daughter.
On a side note, did anyone notice that this site has been in operation for more than a year...Hmmm.
New projects with Kay Kay
You know how sometimes you feel like you've died and gone to heaven...well thats what I felt like after I read this in a Rahul Bose interview...
"There’s a two-man psycho thriller called The Whisperers; the other man is played by Kay Kay. It will be directed by Rajeev Virani, but I’ve written the screen-play. Normally, I would have never done this, but I feel wedded to this project. Shooting will start some time in mid-October."
"It’s about these two men who meet for the first time in an apartment. They have a friendly conversation that starts going to unforeseen places. The title is an allegory for people in Bombay who are too cowardly to say things to your face. This is a city of whisperers, not back stabbers. They kill you with their whispers."

Whoa! Rahul Bose and Kay Kay together in a movie. Loved Rahul Bose in Mr. and Mrs. Iyer. Can't wait till The Whisperers comes out.
Anurag Kashyap is planning yet another project called Black Friday, based on the 'shocking violent events of that fateful day'.
Based on S Hussain Zaidi's book Black Friday, the film will be produced by Arindam Mitra, Director Operations, Mid Day Multimedia Limited. It will star Irfan, Kay Kay, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Maurya and Zakir Hussain, with background score by Sandeep Chowta.Read more.
Just goes to show...you can't keep a talented film-maker down.
New article, update on Deewar etc.
A new article titled 'Kay Sera Sera' has been posted in the articles section. It has been there for a while without a link pointed to it so here it is.....Read
Shooting for Gaurang Doshi's Deewar is in full swing. Promos have been shot and shooting for the film has begun at Deolali station. In other news, Amrita Rao has replaced Bipasha Basu in the movie.
Rumour has it that Kay Kay might have a role in Sandeep Chowta's directorial debut starring Tabu and Nagarjuna. I'll confirm this when I hear more about it.
Gulal stalled; Paanch to release soon
Unfortunately, Anurag Kashyap's film Gulal starring Kay Kay has been stalled after 9 days of filming due to lack of finances. If Anurag's next film Allwyn Kalicharan (starring Anil Kapoor) performs well at the box office, he should be able to gather enough funds to complete Gulal. In the meantime, Anurag's maiden venture Paanch is about to release after long delays.
13/02/2003Kay Kay nominated for Stardust Hero Cycles Awards
Yay! Kay Kay has been nominated for the Stardust Hero Cycles Awards in the category 'Superstar Of Tomorrow - Male new actor in a leading role'. Make sure you put in your votes for Kay Kay. Now, I can't make any claims about the scruples of the organisers, but we can all live in hope. Here is the link...VOTE FOR KAY KAY!
30/01/2003Good news and bad
Been a bit lazy with the updates. Sorry about that.
The bad news is that due to certain date problems Kay Kay will no longer be doing Vishal Bharadwaj's film Maqbool. He has been replaced by Irfan Khan (of The Warrior fame).
The good news is that things are definately moving in positive directions with regards to Paanch. Anurag Kashyap and Tutu Sharma have decided to put their differences aside and a lot of work is being undertaken which will eventually lead to a February release (fingers crossed). So, make sure you support Paanch by buying movie tickets, audio cassettes, CDs and such.
Filmography updated
The filmography has been updated with details of Kay Kay's work on television, theatre and film. Kay Kay enthusiasts will enjoy.
Happy New Year to everyone.

Kay Kay with the Big B in Deewar!
Seems like this year will end very nicely for Kay Kay, despite the setbacks for Paanch. Kay Kay is said to be part of Gaurang Doshi's (of Aankhen fame) next film titled Deewar. His co-stars will be Amitabh Bacchan, Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna. The new Deewar is said to have a patriotic theme.
No news of Paanch!
Like I said, no news of Paanch.

14/11/2002Kay Kay in Hansal Mehta's next!
The latest is that Kay Kay will be in Hansal Mehta's next film in which Hansal will try his hand at action (directing, that is). Kay Kay's character is rumoured to be the main negative protagonist in the film. Hopefully, Hansal has learnt his lessons from Chhal and there won't be any lame mujra sequences in this one. The film is untitled as of now and the leading man has not been confirmed. More soon.....

Kay Kay Menon Fansite - Refurbishments
Coming soon - Screen savers, Wall papers and full length songs from Chhal.
What's happening with Paanch?
As if Paanch hasn't faced enough problems already, things are getting further complicated by a war of words between Tutu Sharma (the producer) and Anurag Kashyap (the director). The issue is the release date of Paanch, which Tutu is postponing till what he would deem an apt time from a commercial point of view. Anurag, as expected, is unhappy with the situation. [Quite frankly, I think the chances of seeing Paanch before mid-November are nil, and the prospects for the film look bleak. The best I can hope for, is that Kay Kay receives the recognition he deserves for his portrayal of Luke.]
