Welcome to the 'Crafting Guide'. Included are experience tables for crafting items,
the level you need to be to craft the items, where you can buy or find the tools
you need to for crafting and crafting requirements and rewards for quests.
Spinning
The easiest way to gain crafting experience is to spin wool or flax. You gather wool or flax, take it to a spinning
wheel and make balls of wool or bow strings.

Wool
Wool is used to make balls of wool. Balls of wool are used with 'Holy Symbols' and with 'Amulets'.
Use Shears on a 'fluffy' sheep to get wool. Sometimes the sheep will get away from you, but you will get wool
most of the time. A sheep that has already been sheared can not be sheared for about 1 minute, then it will
'grow' its wool back.
Take the wool to a spinning wheel. Click on the spinning wheel, and 'Right' click on the image of the 'Wool'.
A menu will come up, giving you the option of making 1, 5, 10 or 'X' number of 'Balls of Wool'.
Sheep are found:
- in a field just north of the Lumbridge castle
- west of the Lumbridge castle
- south of Varrok (near the dark wizards)
- north of the Crafting Guild (by the 'Make-Over' Mage's house)
- in Zanaris (the Lost City) near the water fountains.
Flax
Flax is used to make bow strings. Pick the flax from the fields and take it to a spinning wheel. Click on the
spinning wheel, and 'Right' click on the image of the 'Flax'. A menu will come up, giving you the option of
making 1, 5, 10 or 'X' number of 'Bow Strings'.
Flax is found in a field south of 'Party Pete's' place in Seers Village and scattered throughout most of the
Gnome settlement at the Grand Tree
Spinning wheels are found at:
- 2nd floor of Lumbridge Castle
- 2nd floor of Crafting Guild
- 1st floor of building near Falador's south gate
- Barbarian village (between Varrok and Falador)
- 2nd floor of house north of graveyard in Seers village
- on Gnome tree platforms south of Gnome Agility course (3 spinning wheels)
- in Relleka (Fremenick village)
- the Elf camp (Regicide quest area)

Glass Blowing
To make glass, you need soda ash (made by burning seaweed on a range or open fire), and a bucket of sand. Use the
sand and soda ash at a furnace to make molten glass. Use a glass blowers rod on the molten glass to make
an item out of glass. The menu that comes up will give you the choice to make a beer mug, vial, orb, candle lantern,
oil lamp or bullseye lens. 'Right' clicking on what you want to make will let you make 1, 5 10 or 'X' number of
items at a time.

Seaweed
Seaweed is used to make soda ash. It can be caught with a big netwhile fishing. Big net fishing spots are located in
Catherby, the Fishing guild and north west of the Elf Camp (Regicide Quest). Seaweed also spawns on Entrana (north west
corner), along the coast around Karajma, on the shore north east of Relleka (Fremennick village). Also, the Rock Crabs
(found north of Relleka) sometimes drop seaweed when they are killed.
Sand
Use an empty bucket on a Sand Pit to gather sand. Sand pits are found on Entrana (near the boat dock), in Zanaris
(the lost city), just north of Relleka, in Yanille, and in Shilo village.

To charge the orb, you need an uncharged orb, 3 cosmic runes, and 30 elemental runes (of the type
of orb you want to make, i.e. 30 water runes to charge a water orb). Cast the appropriate charge orb spell
on the obelisk. The Fire and Water obelisks are found in the Taverly dungeon, near the Black dragons. The
Fire obelisk is on a mound in a lava pool, and the Water obelisk is up the ladder on an island near Catherby.
The Earth and Air obelisks are found in the wild part of the Edgeville dungeon. The Earth obelisk is near
the Demon Chronozon (and poison spiders) and the Air obelisk is up the ladder near the Greater demons.
Use the charged orb on a plain battle staff to make an enchanted battle staff (battle staff of water, etc.).
Plain battle staffs can be bought at the staff shop in Varrok and at the Magic Store (2nd floor of Mage Guild)
in Yanille.

Clay can be mined at the mining spot south west of Varrok, in the Crafting guild south west of Falador, and at
the Scorpian's Pit mining spot north of Al Karid. After you have mined the clay, soften the clay by using a jug
(or bucket) of water on it. Click on the potter's wheel to bring up a menu of available items to make. 'Right'
click on the item you want to make and a menu will come up and let you choose to make 1, 5, 10 or 'X' number of
items. Use the unfired items on a pottery oven (kiln) to finish making the item. Clicking on the oven will bring
up a menu that will let you choose to make everything except the pot lids. 'Right' click on what you want to make,
and choose how many you want to fire (1, 5, 10 or 'X' number). Pot lids have to be fired by using the lid on the
oven, one at a time.
Potter's Wheels and Pottery Ovens (Kilns) can be found together at the Barbarians village and in the
Crafting guild.

Armor
Armor can be crafted from leather, dragonhide leather and from snail shells. Leather and dragonhide leather can be made
by taking hides to a tanner. Snail shells are dropped by snails found in the Mort Myre swamps. Tanners are found in
Al Karid, the Crafting guild, the Ranging guild and in Canifis (the werewolf village).

Cow Hides
Cow hides are dropped by cows and calves. Cows are found all over Runescape.
- in the field between Lumbridge and Al Karid (there are calves here, too)
- in the field north of the windmill between Draynor village and Lumbridge
- at the farm south of Falador
- in Zanaris (the lost city)

The Snail Helms (Snelms) are crafted by using a chisel on a snail shell. 2 styles of shells are dropped by the Mort Myre snails, a smaller thin shell and a larger fat shell. .
Snail Shells
Mort Myre snails drop snail shells. Snails come in 5 colors, the Blood blamish, Bark blamish, Blue blamish, Myre blamish, and Ochre blamish snails. The snails are found in the Mort Myre swamp south of Canifis (werewolf village). The 'Snelms' that can be made are the 'Blood and Tar' from the Blood blamish shell, 'Bruised Blue' from the Blue blamish shell, 'Broken Bark' from the Bark blamish shell, 'Myre' from the Myre blamish shell, and 'Ochre' from the Ochre blamish shell. The Myre blamish and Ochre blamish snails are the most coomon found.

Jewelry
You can also gain experience by cutting gems, crafting gold jewelry and silver holy symbols. Selling enchanted amulets and rings are also a good way to earn money in Runescape. All gold amulets (except plain), gold rings (except plain), and saphire necklace can be enchanted to give them special bonuses. All holy (and unholy) symbols can be blessed. The Star of Sarodomin is blessed by brother Jered at the monastary west of Edgeville, the Sigil of Zamorak can be blessed at the Chaos Druid fortress west of the Gnome/Kazard battle field, and the Silver Sickle can be blessed at the nature grotto in the Mort Myre swamp south of Canifis (after completing the 'Nature Spirit' quest). All three symbols can be blessed by using Guthix' Book of Balance on them.

Gems are used in making gold jewelry and in fletching (Opal gems can be cut into bolt tips). Use a chisel with an uncut gem to make cut gems. Opals, Jade and Red Topaz are not used to make gold jewely, and have the chance to be crushed when cutting. Crushing one of these gems will still gain you some experience, but not as much as you would receive for successfully cutting them. The gems used in jewelry (Saphire, Emerald, Ruby, Diamond and Dragon Stone) can not be crushed. Cut Opal gems can be made into Opal bolt tips by using a chisel on the gem. Jade and Red Topaz are used in a few quests, but are not needed for anythings else (at this time).
Gems are found while mining ores and clay. Wearing a chared Amulet of Glory will increase your chance of getting a gem while mining. Gems can also be mined from the 'Gem Rocks' in the Shilo village. There are gem stalls in Al Karid, and Ardougne and a gem store in Falador south of the west bank) where you can buy gems. You can get Opals, Jades and Red Topazs from pickpocketing H.A.M members in their hideout east of Draynor village, and you can steal gems from the gem stall in Ardougne.
The only gem that can't be mined (or stolen) is the Dragon Stone gem. The only way to get this gem is to take it from the chest in Taverly. The chest is opened by the Crystal Key. The Crystal Key is made by combining 2 Half Keys (Teeth half key and Loop Half key) together. Half keys are dropped by many of Runescapes monsters (like Black Knights, Chaos Dwarves and Dragons).

To make gold jewelry, you need a gold bar, a mould, and a gem (gems are not needed for plain jewelry). Use the gold bar on a furnace and choose what item you want to make. 'Right' click on what you want to make and choose to make 1, 5 or 10 of that item. Rings, necklaces and amulets are made of gold. Amulets need to have a ball of wool added to them before they can be worn (or enchanted).
Gold bars are made by smelting gold ore in a furnace. Gold ore can be mined at the Scorpian Pit mines (north of Al Karid), outside the Mining guild in the Dwarven mines, in the dugeon east of Ardougne (Family Crest quest), and on Karajma (south west and north west of Brimhaven).

Crafting Guild
The Runescape Crafting guild is located south west of Falador (just south of the 'Make-Over' mage's house). If your crafting level is at least 40, you can use the guild, just remember to wear a brown apron (required to get in). You can purchase brown aprons at the clothing store in varrok.
The Crafting guild master greets you when you enter (but does not provide any helpful information).
The first floor of the guild houses the pottery workshop. Ther are four Potter's Wheels and a Pottery oven here. There is also a sink, so you can get water to soften freshly mined clay. Out the east doorway, you will find a mining area. There are 7 gold rocks, 6 silver rocks and 6 clay rocks to mine. Outside of the guild (in a pasture to the west) are about 10 to 12 cows (a good source of cow hides to make leather) and to the north (near the 'Make-Over' mage's house) are 6 sheep.
The second floor of the guild has two spinning wheels and a 'Tanner'. The tanner charges the same price that the other tanners in Runescape charge (with the exception of the Canifis city tanner). Click here to see the tanning price table.

Craft Shops/Gem Stalls
There are three craft supply stores in runescape and they all cary the same basic supplies (with a couple of exceptions in the Ape Atoll store). The stores are located in Al Karid (Dommik's Crafting Store), in Rimmington (Rommik's Crafty Supplie) and on the Ape Atoll (Hamab's Crafting Emporium). To buy anything at Hamab's, you need to have done the 'Monkey Madness' quest and be in your monkey disguise. Prices at all three stores are the same.
Crating Stores Supplies and Prices
- Chisel.....1 gold
- Ring Mould.....5 gold
- Necklace Mould.....5 gold
- Amulet Mould (Al Karid and Rimmington only).....5 gold
- Monkey Amulet Mould (Ape Atoll only).....10 gold
- Needle.....1 gold
- Thread.....1 gold
- Ball of Wool.....2 gold (Ape Atoll only)
- Holy Symbol Mould.....5 gold (Al Karid and Rimmington only)
- Sickle Mould.....10 gold (Al Karid and Rimmington only)
Balls of wool can also be purchased at the 'Adventurer's Store' in Ardougne. Shears, jugs, and buckets can be purchased at any 'General Store' found all around Runescape. The glassblowing rod can be found on Entrana (in house north of the sand pit) and in the house just north of the 'Fishing Contest' area gate.
There are three places to buy gems in Runscape, the gem stall in Al Karid, the gem store in Falador (south of the west bank) and the gem stall in Ardougne. The Falador and Al Karid stores sell uncut and cut gems, while the stall in Ardougne only sells cut gems. The only gems avialable to buy are Saphires, Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds. Even though all four gem types can be purchased from these locations, only the Saphire and Emerald spawn in the store's inventories. The only time Rubies and Diamonds can be purchased is when another player has already sold them to the store.
The silver stall in Ardougne sells 'unblessed' holy symbols, silver ore and silver bars.
If purchasing supplies is not your style, you can try to steal what you need. You can steal silver ore from the silver stall in Ardougne, cut gems from the gem stall and supplies and tools from the Ape Atoll store. But be careful, all the places are guarded and you can only steal from the craft store on the Ape Atoll when you are NOT disguised as a monkey. You can also pick the pockets of Gnomes to get fire orbs, and you can pick the pockets of H.A.M. members to get basic crafting items.
