The Hans Zimmer Empire
Who is Hans Zimmer? What is Remote Control Productions? If you know anything about me then you know that Hans Zimmer is my idol. While many people know who Hans Zimmer is they don't know how he has influenced the industry with Remote Control Productions. Most people may also know other great composers and don't realize that they came from the school of Zimmer. This page will show you every major composer that is part of the Zimmer Empire.

Remote Control Productions: Hans Zimmer's studio is located in Santa Monica, California. Long time Zimmer fans know the studio as Media Ventures. MV was run by Zimmer and his business partner Jay Rifkin. Rifkin then accused Zimmer of holding money out from him and sued him. Zimmer broke all ties with him and started his own solo studio. RCP is basically a multi roomed studio that houses not only Zimmer's personal studio but those of all the composers that he mentors. Since Zimmer stresses on collaboration he works with a hoard of young composers who start out working as additional music composers and arrangers on his scores and then they move up to compose their own scores. Hans Zimmer is the pioneer of electronic and orchestral fusion and his composers have gone out and have spread the film music revolution. Each composer, while they share similar styles as Zimmer, is completely unique and brilliantly original.
Hans Zimmer: The best composer working in Hollywood right now. If you want his full bio then go to my Hans Zimmer page. He is the reason why I am a filmmaker.

John Powell: One of the best and most versitile composers to come from Media Ventures is John Powell. Powell's sound is very unique and once heard is unmistakable. He uses orchestra much more than his fellow Media Venture composers, but still relies on synth sounds to get his effect. John Powell is right now one of the most requested composers for animation; his children movie scores are award winning and world known. In a flash he can do something has heavy as United 93 and then movie to a light-hearted fare like Happy Feet, he is that versitile. He often uses wind ensembles including higher note instruments like flutes, and that makes him stand out from the MV gang.

Nick Glennie-Smith: While he has a small body of work as a solo composer it is his constant additional support to Hans Zimmer that is so valuable. Almost every Zimmer score has Glennie-Smith credited as an additional music writer, orchestrator, arranger or conductor. His solo music is very synth heavy, and while his body of work is small the scores he has done are unforgettable. He has been beside Hans Zimmer since the beginning.

Some Of His Work Includes:
A Sound Of Thunder
We Were Soliders
Attila
Highlander: Endgame

Klaus Badelt: Klaus Badelt is right now scoring some of Hollywood's biggest films and he is getting world wide recognition for it. He worked as an additional composer on Gladiator and did his first solo score with The Time Machine. When Hans Zimmer was approached to score the first Pirates film he was way too busy with The Last Samurai. He promised Gore Verbinski that he would work on the film as much as he could, but he gave Klaus Badelt the responsibility of headlining the score. Hans wrote some of the main themes to the first Pirates and Klaus tied it all together in an extremely short amount of time. His career has since taken off.

Mark Mancina: Starting his early career with Trevor Rabin's band Yes, Mancina's name may not be known to all but his tunes sure are. His themes are some of the most memorable behind Zimmer's work. His music truly stands alone and he is one of the best when it comes to scoring action and suspense. He is Jan De Bont's and Antoine Fuqua's close friend and he scores most of their films.

Jeff Rona: Rona is a contemporary composer who has actually been mentored by quite a few composers. His style is a bit different than the rest of the composers at Media Ventures, but it's brilliant nontheless. His first work was with Phillip Glass on Powaqqatsi. He toured a bit with composer Brian Eno, but he learned the ropes by working as an additional composer on a large amount of Zimmer's films. He collaborated as an additional composer for Cliff Martinez on Traffic as well.

Some Of His Work Includes:
White Squall
Earthsea
Traffic: The Miniseries
A Thousand Roads (co-composed with Lisa Gerrard)
Rupert Gregson-Williams: His big brother has without a doubt made a bigger name for himself than he has. Rupert has been doing additional music for Zimmer for a bit and has actually done quite a few solo pieces. His style is a bit similar to his older brother, but he doesn't rely as much on the electronica sound.

Over The Hedge

Ask The Dust (co-composed with Heitor Pereira)
Blade Trinity
Remote Control Friends: These people never had Hans Zimmer as a mentor but are close friends with Zimmer and his group of composers. They sometimes collaborate with each other, but their success never relied on Zimmer.
Trevor Rabin: Rabin started out in a band called Yes and after is rock & roll days were over he moved to the film scoring business. Many people associate him with Hans Zimmer when in reality the only thing they have in common are their styles. Rabin made camp at Media Ventures only once just to be close to his producer when he was scoring Armageddon. He has collaborated with members of Media Ventures in the past and is a friend of Hans Zimmer. He is known for working with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and has scored some huge films.

Some Of His Work Includes:

Lisa Gerrard: She is best known for her role in the New Age group Dead Can Dance. Her voice can be recognized worldwide just from the amazing range she has. Hans Zimmer was looking for the last ingrediant for his score to Gladiator so he started listening to some CD's for inspiration. He popped in a Dead Can Dance CD and instantly knew her voice was what the score needed. Gladiator is still the #1 selling soundtrack of all-time and almost everyone, whether or not they know the names Zimmer and Gerrard, can identify Gladiator's score when they hear it. Even though she did not compose any music for Gladiator, Hans Zimmer felt her contribution was so essential that he gave her credit as co-composer. She recieved an Academy Award nomination along with Zimmer for the score and has since gone to compose solo scores of her own as well as contribute her voice to Zimmer and his composers.

Night Shyamalan and has composed all of his films. He has scored an incredible wealth of scores for some classic and contemporary films.
