Saber Toothed (the) Tigers

Game 4 vs Saberette Rumors - 10/1/2006

The game against the Saberettes was the first real test for the "full" team.  This team had the size, strength and experience advantage over the Tigers.  Everyone was anticipating a good, tough game and both teams did not disappoint.

Before a packed house of about 25 screaming fans from both sides at CSUDH, the teams played an intense first half.  It was a back and forth half with both teams taking turns making runs.  The Sabers jumped out into the early lead behind the physical, inside play of #12.  She was load going coast to coast and in her post play (I think we need to learn how to foul under the basket - hard..).  Then the Tigers had their spurt behind Emiko and Shelby.  The first ended with the Tigers up by 4.  Confidence was high...

Then the 2nd half started...The girls played tough but seemed to wear down as the half went on.  #12 (who seemed to never ever get tired) took advantage of this and began to exert her will and would not be denied going to the hoop.  She was tough!  The girls hung in there until the end but came up a little short.  The final score was Saberettes 31 - Tigers 28.

I should mention that we probabaly would have had at least 3 more points in a gym marked with a 3 point line as Shelby hit at least 3 shots from long distance (maybe more..).  But why cry over dotted lines..  The game was a good learning experience for the girls.  They played a determined and physical team.  The Saberettes seemed to play harder then any game I have seen them play before this season.  Why do our girls seem to have that effect on the other teams? : )

I would like to say - good game girls.  Way to play tough even though it was not a great shooting game.  Hopefully we'll see them again later...

Next up - Pasadena Bruins.  They have a similar type girl as #12 but not quite as skilled.  As much as I hate to say this - "Beat the Bruins" (now why couldn't they have been named the trojans..).

Had they been named the Trojans, they would have all lived in subsidized town housing in Orange County and had two agents per player, along with Chevy Tahoes leased for 0 down, 0% financing for the first 100 years. And then they be investigated, subsequently being found guilty after they have graduated from college and are pursuing careers as car salesmen.
