Taking On The Upper Echelon or Lesson In Humility..

Sorry the blogger had taken a slight siesta.  Although it wasn't because the girls had lost the past 3 weeks although that didn't help..

After taking the first 3 games of the season, the challenging part of the schedule with the Tigers taking on the upper echelon teams of the division was upon them.  My thoughts were for the girls to be competitive against the top teams and maybe pull an upset once (or twice).  It would be difficult for the girls as these teams are: 1) talented 2) bigger and stronger 3) well coached 4) have more experience.  With (4) being a big obstacle.

I just don't want to write about negatives of the past 3 game but the games against the Breeze, Rainbows and Venice were pretty much the same:

-Rebounding which isn't a strong point of the team is only magnified when playing these top teams.  Just can't give them multiple shots per trip - they are going to score.

-Defense - playing good defense will keep you in games (Sol theory).  The girls seemed to have lost a step in their defense, rotation etc., well most likely it's due to the level of teams they are playing.  Their defense is getting.. picked apart to put it nicely.

-Aggressiveness - I guess the bottom line is the top teams are just WAY more aggressive than our girls currently.  It's definitely a great learning experience for the girls.  The team just need to flex their muscles a little more, Kris can be a terror (just ask Kevin) :)

But the girls are giving it their best and playing hard.  They just seem to be in a funk right now.  Of course much of it has to do with the competition but they just need to go out there, play loose, have fun and compete.  I know they can play with all these teams and be very competitive.   They may be undersized compared to the top teams but the talent isn't lacking.  I feel it will take just one good game (hopefully against the Titans) to get the girls going again.  The Titans are talented and skilled with probably the best PG in the league but they are not the tallest of the upper teams.  If the girls come out strong and play their game, they should be just fine!  Good luck Tigers!
