“Nice Shorts!”

The Pasadena Bruins Kumas was up next for the girls in JAO week 3.  Both teams came into this game undefeated and by coincidence, both teams beat the same 2 teams for their wins up to this game.  The Bruins are a fast rising team with a couple of tough, fast players who never seem to lose energy.  The Tigers were coming off a somewhat lackluster effort game and needed to play with more energy to keep up with the Bruins.

The girls did come out with much more fire and jumped out to a 10 – 0 lead behind a three pointer from Kayla and great rebounding and free throw shooting from Erica who made 5 out of 6 free throws in the first half.  After jumping out to the big lead, the girls seem to relax and the Bruins made a run of 8 unanswered points and it was a game from then.  A couple of baskets, including a 3 from Kris and points from Shelby and Emiko kept the Tigers up slightly at half (or was it tied?..).

The 2nd half had the girls go on a mini run of 5 – 6 points behind tough play from Emiko and Erica pounding the boards and getting to the free throw line.  But in a game of runs, the Bruins fought back behind their roadrunners and closed the gap.  Emiko had a big “And 1” and baskets by Kayla and Kris kept the girls slightly ahead.  As the Bruins made their final run, a huge 3 pointer from Shelby sealed the victory for the Tigers by the score of 31 – 28 I think..

The girls rebounded much better this game (although the Bruins weren’t that big) and played more aggressively this game.  Erica had a great all around game and CC, Jodi, Laruen and Kristen played tough on defense.  Jodi had the shot attempt of the game with a no look, over the back “horse” shot that came pretty darn close..

Finally, we were wondering in the stands if Emiko was growing again because her shorts, were rather… short.  Or was she starting the new fashion trend of going “old school” or John Stockton.  As Shelby put it “Nice Shorts!”..  Great win girls!  It gets real interesting from here as they take on the upper echelon 7th grade teams from next week.  Titans anyone?..
