Gag Me With A Spoon..

Week 2 of JAO 08 had the Tigers taking on the San Fernando Sparks.  These 2 teams had played some close, hard fought games over the past year and this game was no different.  These "Valley Girls" can not only shop but can play some good basketball... "totally"..

The first half was a close, see-saw battle with both teams taking and surrendering leads.  Shelby got the scoring going by making a nice basket from an Emiko assist.  San Fernando stayed in the game by pounding the boards and getting the ball inside.  Scores from Shelby, Kayla and Jodi kept the Tigers up at the break by a slim margin.

In the 2nd half, the girls went on a run led by baskets from Kris, Emiko. Kayla and Shelby which gave the girls a 7 point lead or so.  The teams traded baskets for most of the half with the girls maintaining a comfortable lead until the 5:00 mark when San Fernando went on a run to close the gap.  The girls got conservative near the end but a couple of big baskets by Shelby kept the team ahead.  San Fernando closed the gap to a one point game with seconds left and was heading down for the winning score but luckily for the girls the shot was off.  The Tigers hold on and beat San Fernando by the score of 29 – 28 thriller.

It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, in fact it was “grody to the max” but it was a win.  The team is getting more experience playing in close, tough games and this should help them later on when they play the upper echelon teams (if they keep it close..) : )  The Tigers still need to concentrate on rebounding as that is what kept San Fernando in this game.  It’s time to go from Tiger Darlings to Tiger Not so Darling on the boards.  Anyway, good game from all the girls!
