Double-licious!

The Tigers had 2 league games this weekend against upper tier teams in the division:  Pasadena Bruins and San Fernando Sparks.  Sweeping these games would set the girls up to do well in the rest of league play.

The Saturday game was against the Pasadena Bruins Kumas who are re-tooled with Courtney Chen at PG.  The girls played this team about a month ago in the Bruins tourney and the Bruins gave the girls all they could handle.   The game started off with our "microwave" Jodi, getting hot early.  She jump started the team off to a good start by hitting her first few shots from distance and basically the girls never looked back.  It was a defensive struggle throughout and it was tough scoring for both teams.  While the team's offensive game was not "on" the girls scored just enough to maintain a 8 - 10 lead most of the 2nd half behind Shelby, Emiko, Kayla, Jodi, Erica (who hit clutch FT's) and Kris.  The Kumas hit some late shots to cut the margin but the game was always comfortably in hand.  Behind balanced scoring - 5 girls had at least 4 points the girls beat the Bruins, 25 - 19.  And I don't usually call out the refs but in this game something was "funky".  The one lady ref seemed not to like us..  I was wondering what Bobby did to her in his past life... :)  Oh well, you have to play thru those things and the girls did a good job.

Sunday's game was against the San Fernando Sparks.  This team beat the girls in the WLA tourney championship game in overtime.  So of course, the theme was "Remember WLA".  And no one remembered WLA more than Shelby, who was amped for this game...  In a game to remember, the girls played one heck of a game.  It's tough to recall a game when so many girls were "on" offensively led by Shelby who was in da zone!  Kris got the team off by hitting her first few shots and then it was Shelby, Kayla, Shelby, Emi, Shelby, Jodi, Shelby, Erica, Shelby...  You get the picture.  The girls were hitting from all over the floor and driving aggressively to the basket.  The Tigers built a 8 - 10 point lead at half and as the 2nd half started they blitzed San Fernando with a huge run (at least 10 – 0) and the rout was on.  The girls even gave the score keeper a break where he got to turn off the score.  Final score?  Not sure but the official SBY score had it 1 - 0 Tigers...  good ol' sportsmanship.  But the final was around 43 - 20.  Great game girls.

Hopefully the girls continue to pick up the intensity and aggressive play.  Shout out to all the girls this weekend.  Keep up the good play!  VFW is around the corner and the possibly of playing gold level teams will be fun.
