"And The Emmy (or Emi) Goes To..."

JAO Game 1 vs. FOR Hoopsters

The first Sunday of 2007 marks the new season of JAO basketball and historically a sluggish game for the team.  However, this year it appears the girls had a New Years resolution to change all that...  Or maybe it was my reminder to Emi and Kris at dinner about "Remembering Vegas" and how the Hoopsters reveled in their victory last summer.  Whatever it was, the team came out with a different attitude.

The team set the tone in the first half quickly by playing tough defense.  Remarkably Kris had a few steals and layups by jumping into passing lanes.  Then Emi went on a scoring rampage in front of a large gathering of the Beppu clan who had to be thrilled.  From the 3 pointer from the side (I think she called bank) to a wide variety of drives to the basket, Emi was on fire.  Then it was Kayla's turn to add to the scoring barrage by scoring a few baskets, especially one nice buzzer beater runner as the half ended.

The 2nd half was all Tigers as the girl's length on defense made it difficult for the Hoopsters to score.  All the girls contributed to this team win with Erica and Courtney anchoring the middle, Jodi had some nice moves taking the ball to the basket and Kristen playing tough "D" like always.  The Hoopsters never threatened in the 2nd half and they actually looked like the sluggish team.  Final score was 29 -13.

Thank you Jangs for the snacks.  Those manju balls were excellent.

Next up the FOR Mystics.  A 6th grade team with good talent with the ability to beat anyone.
