Kumas Kumon'd (or Bruins Schooled)

Game 5 vs Pasadena Bruins Kumas - 10/8/2006

SBYB Picture Day...  The girls (or moms helping) spending that extra minute or two or three primping themselves to Tiger Divas status :).  Actually I had to threaten Kris to do her hair neatly or else I was going to do it for her.  Needless to say, she was brushing her knots out in a N.Y. minute..

So after "striking the pose" for the cameras it was off to face the Pasadena Kumas.  This team played the girls pretty tough in the Bruins tourney.  I actually heard a few fan comments at the Bruins tourney that the Kumas never played as hard as they did against our girls.  Again we have that effect on teams as I'm sure they didn't want to lose to a younger team.

The game started a little slow for the Tigers but by mid way thru the 1st half the girls had built a 10 - 0 lead with a balanced scoring attack.  The girl's full court press was creating turnovers and opportunities.  The Kumas showed heart and came back with a 7 - 0 scoring run to close out the half.  So despite outplaying the Kumas most of the half, the Tigers were only up by 3 at the break.

As in many of our games (except last week..) the girls came out strong to start the 2nd half.  The 3 point halftime lead quickly grew to a double digit lead behind the press, good defense and the out of bounds play.  The girls held the Kumas to only 4 points in the 2nd half while pouring in 16 points of their own.  Final score was Tigers 26 - Pasadena Kumas 11.

The balanced attack was led by Kris with 8, Jodi with 6 and Shelby/Emiko/Kayla with 4 each.  Erica, CC and Lauren played great defense and were instrumental in the 2nd half barrage.  I think Erica needs to teach some of the girls how to rebound. :)

Thanks to Candace for the delicious snacks.  The baked goods were awesome.

We have a break this coming weekend and then the VFW tourney.  First "major" tourney playing in 6 grade division.  First game vs. Venice Angels who are currently in 2nd place in Gold division.  We have to be prepared for a quick, super fast PG who is "Jennifer Ida" like...  Shelby/Kayla - get some rest!
