I   Back  I

Sananta Tanti

The Whole Day Long

He spread his wings the whole day long
and told tales of spring
in the shade of his extended wings

I cooled my flesh, thawed my blood
my sagging skin, my pale face
and my blind eye
that sees not even in the light
these he touched with his unsoiled hands
once I lit a straw torch and leaves

He came and went routinely
like day and night
I didn’t say anything
not even with my eyes or breath
He knew I was in the tomb of pain
knew it was my dark night
my wrecked life my time

He spread his wings and told of spring
I only felt him with my weary hands
the day long, the whole day long.
