Coast to Coast in... 'bout 30 minutes!
Our trip to Piha, on Auckland's West Coast.
Well first things first, it took more like one hour. This was because my Roomies/ Friends trusted my sence of direction! We were determined to visit the beautiful Piha Beach on the West Coast. We live on the East Coast. Anyway, I thought I new the way. We ended up ascending the Waitakere Mountains (which need to be crossed to reach the Beach) on a road barely wide enough to hold Kathryn's wee Honda Integra. Cut a long story short, we finally made it and here are the pics to prove it!
Aparently there are Penguins at Piha Beach... I didn't bloody see any! Anyway, a place that can harbour Penguins must be special!
We return to the safety and comfort ot the Pacific Coast. Is that a Volcano in the centre right of the photo? Oh yeah... forgot about the damn Volcano.
The friendly and Inviting East (Pacific) Coast of Auckland's North Shore became boring... we were after excitement! "Off to the rugged and Dangerous West (Tasman Sea) Coast!" I suggest! The odessy begins...
Fee and I rest after the climb up the Waitakere Range... Auckland lays behind us, so close yet so distant...
Piha Beach comes into sight! Our mission was not in vain afterall! Australia is over that water... somewhere...
Kathryn and Fiona comfort eachother after the arduous journey.
Bathing in the Glory of my navigational skills, I relax with a sweet treat on the beach. Yet, the homely Pacific Coast beckons, and our day of fun and play at Piha comes to an end...
