On July 18, 1984, the first Sabbath School program was held at the residence of Sis. Sherlita Adame, a newly baptized member of the Manila Central Church residing at Area-III, Dagat-Dagatan, Malabon Metro Manila. Bros. Pacifico Laminero, Osias Lumalang, Bert dela Cruz, Ireneo Hitgano, Artemio Gallardo, Segundo Bautista and Sis. Ester Belga joined Sis. Mely Cruz in conducting the first Sabbath School program and services with the following as the first attendees during the meeting:
Four Sabbaths later, the services were transferred to the Albores residence. There the Baternas, the Romulos, the Mercados and Sis. Lucia Moreno joined the group. News about the holdings of Sabbath School services at the Albores residence spread among the Seventh-Day Adventistsresiding in the surrounding areas, so they too came and attended every Sabbath. Thus, the number of the attendees increased every Sabbath.
Lack of space prompted the group to transfer to a bigger place. They transferred to the Barangay Hall of Kapitbahayan, a few blocks from the old site. This time the Sorianos, the Prados and the Combates joined the group. Since the Barangay Hall is apublic place the group encountered some problems and inconveniences during Sabbath services, so once again they decided to seek a better place. Assisted by Pastor Dan Mora, church pastor of Manila Central Church, they transferred to the Protestant Ecumenical chapel, also at the Kapitbahayan, where they held Sabbath services in solemnity and peace for some months. When it became difficult to continue conducting the services there, the need for their own place of worship became very urgent. Sis. Dinah Soriano, one of the members of the group, offered her vacant lot in front of her houseat the Area-I, also at Dagat-Dagatan, Navotas, Metro Manila and they readily accepted it. With the help of brethren from Manila Central Church, most especially Bro. ireneo hitgano and some brethren from Dagat-Dagatan, a small house of worship was erected in that place.
Manila Central Church members led by Bros. Pacifico Laminero, Osias Lumalang, Segundo Bautista and Mely Cruz, helped a lot in strengthening the spiritual life of the newly organizec group of believers. They were the ones who provided teachers for the Sabbath School, singers and speakers every Sabbath.
The group believers increased due to a series of Bible studies and some transferees from other SDA churches. On June 12, 1985, this group was organized as a Company by Pastor Eliezer Lagabon of Central Luzon Mission and named Dagat-Dagatan Seventh-Day Adventist Company. The newly formed Company elected its set of officers namely:
After the group was organized as a Company, the brethren from Manila Central Church allowed the newly elected officers to run their affairs. However, because of her great concern Sis. Mely Cruz remained at Dagat-Dagatn and even transferred her membership there to ensure the continuous growth of the believers. The Manila Central church shared the same concern, so that through Pastor Dan Mora, they requested Bro. Paterno roque, a member of the Executive Committee, to shepherd this flock. He enthusiastically accepted the appointment and on February 3, 1986 joined the group.
On March 17, 1986 this Company of believers was organized as a church by Pastors Gerry Ebora and Dan Mora of Central Luzon Mission. It was named later as Kaunlaran Village SDA Church. On April 22, 1986, this church was accepted to the sisterhood of SDA churches during the constituency meeting at the Philipoine Union College, but still the Church did not have its own property. Thus, the church through her officers asked the leaders of the Central Luzon Mission to buy them a lot wherein they could erect a church building.
The leaders of the Central Luzon Mission responded by assigning Pastors Moises de Ocampo, Victor Flauta and Benjamin Castillo to assist Elder Pat Roque to find a lot. In her enthusiasm to have a permanent place of worship, Sis. Juana LAzaro assisted these pastors and elder locate the lot.
The spirit of generosity moved the hearts of Bro. Pat Roque, Bro. Artemio Gallardo and Engineer Malaquias Santos who shared the amount of 23,000 pesos as their counterpart for the amount given by the Central Luzon Mission. With the amount the church was able to acquire a four hundred square-meter lot at Maya-Maya Street, Kaunlaran Village, Malabon Metro Manila where this building now stands.
Prior to the acquiring of the lot, Bro. Pat Roque asked the assistance of Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel Santos, Jr. and Bro. Editho Albores to follow up the necessary documents at the National Housing Authority. With the help of Divine Providence the three were able to accomplish their task.
While the building was in its initial phase of construction, the brethren occupied one of the rooms of the Mother's Club Day Care Center, a neighboring building of this Church. They stayed there for sometime, but when inconveniences arose, they decided to hold the services in the vicinity of the church lot, under a small tent. The temporary place of worship was indeed lowly in the eyes of some, however, it was better than the place of the infant Jesus was born. In fact, the said tent was seen in a dream which led to the conversion to the Adventist faith of one unbeliever.
The original plan for the building construction was done by the Church Board headed by Pastor Moises de Ocampo on January 7, 1988. Construction of the cemented fence was done on February 1, 1988 and the grround breaking was also held on April 20, 1988. The estimated cost of this building then was 2,000,000 pesos. With only 100,000 pesos on hand. Bro. Pat Roque, Pastor Jose Carbungco (successor of Pastor Moises de Ocampo), Sis. Mely Escalao, Sis. Bety Santos, Sis. Mely Cruz and some other brethren solicited funds here and abroad, but the amount they collected was not enough to finish the building. Some brethren donated some amount of cash, some gave construction materials, and still others helped whenever a "bayanihan" was called for.
The construction of the building was still on its first phase when Bro. Paterno Roque, one of the major proponents of the building, left the church in 1988. Nevertheless, his concern with this church was still burning in his heart, so that on November 24, 1990 he donated the amount of 30,000 pesos cash for the continuance of the construction of this building. In addition, last June 5, 1993 when Bro. Pat Roque became our speaker at the Divine Worship, he felt the need of our church at that time. He promised to provide some of the glasses requirements of the building which is an obvious indication of his great concern to this church.
Bro. Allan Baterna took over his place as Head Elder and tried his best to pursue the construction. Since there was no fund available at that time the construction was temporarily stopped. But God worked in many ways. He sent Bro. Anacleto B. Cortezano, Jr. who assisted Bro. Allan Baterna in continuing the construction work through fund solicitation.
Bro. Cortezano finally joined the Kaunlaran Center Church on November 29, 1989 after almost ten months of being a regular visitor. On the same year he was elected as associate elder for 1990. Bro. Jun Cortezano was instrumental in planning different strategies in fund raising which was proven fruitful and successful and brought in a big amount of cash, construction materials and furnitures to the Church. He even wrote a human interest story and sent them to the program of the Quiet Hour in America which earned $2,000.00 in return.
Besides, he was also active in evangelism and home visitation, which resulted in the conversion of some precious souls to Christ and even brought back some backsliders.
Moreover, the SDA sign boards that he solicited from Sis. Martha Fernandez of Pasay Rooftop Church, helped a lot in bringing in a numerous visitor- worshipper to the Church every Sabbath some of whom became regular members of the Church.
To hasten the construction of the Church, God sent Bro. Eulogio Jacla, who is knowledgeable in construction work. He assisted Bro. Jhun Cortezano in the construction of this building.
Meanwhile, on March 17, 1990, during the regular Church Board meeting under the chairmanship of Pastor Daniel Malabad, this Church was renamed Kaunlaran Center Church of Seventh-Day Adventists.
