The above statement covers everything that is wrong with the world at present. To list a few: War, terrorism, torture, abuse, murder, persecution, bullying, starvation. What do all of these things have in common? They are all human inflicted. We are all guilty of causing the pain to these people, at least most of us are. I will take starvation as an example to illustrate my point. Though this is not an issue partcularly in the news right now, it doesn't stop being an issue. Now for the statistics: More than 840,000,000 people suffer from hunger. That's about three times the population of the USA. This is chronic, persistent hunger, which kills 24,000 people every day, or over 8 million each year. Three of four who die are younger than five� Malnutrition contributes to the death of 11,000 children each day, according to statistics from the United Nations. Approximately 300 million African people�nearly half the population�live in extreme poverty on less than $1 a day. One out of every three people in sub-Saharan Africa is undernourished, and food consumption per person is actually falling. More than one billion people will go to bed hungry tonight. The world�s farmers grow enough food to provide at least 4.3 pounds of food per day for every person. This is more than enough food for everyone on the planet. Worldwide, there are 2750 calories available for each person. The Food and Agriculture Organization has set the minimum daily requirement at 2350. So what are YOU doing to change this injustice? Standing by and doing nothing is almost as bad as actually being the one causing the pain. This is a severe problem, something is definately not right when there are people in Africa dying from not eating enough, while there are people in America dying from eating too much.
