"Ladies and gentlemen -- Donny and Marie!"
Those six words introduced Donny and Marie on each of their four-year and four-season-running teleivision show episodes from 1976 to 1979.
Donny and Marie were one of the greatest brother-sister musical duo's of the 70's, and on their show their talent shined. For the first three seasons, they did their trademark sequence of "Little Bit Country, Little Bit Rock and Roll", in which Marie would sing a country number, Donny a rock tune, Marie would sing once more before Donny would take over and then Marie would chime in. At the end of each show, the two would sing "May Tomorrow (Be a Prefect Day)" -- this song did not drop out by the fourth season unlike the Country/Rock segment.
The show relied pre-dominantly on the siblings' chemistry and their musical talent. They would both sing the opening number, and then do a comedy skit. The ending finale's included the episode's guest stars singing and dancing with D and M, and by the third and fourth seasons, the finale's were not only musical sequences, but musical skits. The show, although short-lived, was charming and entertaining. Both Donny and Marie proved to be wonderful performers, and to this day they are known as two of America's most popular teen sweethearts.
