Donny started performing at a very young age. When he was only five years old, he appeared on the Andy Williams show singing "You Are My Sunshine". Later on, he completely joined his brother in their band as the five of them embarked on their pop and roll career. After the success of "One Bad Apple", Donny was launched on his own solo career and provided the hit "Sweet and Innocent" in 1971, followed by his USA #1, "Go Away Little Girl" in the same year. But it was "Puppy Love" in 1972, a Paul Anka composition, that has become Donny's trademark for over 30 years.
After 1975 when the Osmond Brothers' popularity wasn't quite what it was three years earlier, a new Osmond act sprung up; Donny and Marie on their weekly television show; The Donny and Marie Show. The brother-sister duo had already become a popular act in 1974, when they teamed up to sing "I'm Leaving It All Up To You", which peaked at #4 on the charts.
The show was a success through-out its first season, but by the second ratings started to receed. By 1979 -- the show's fourth season -- the series ended and Donny went musically inactive for nearly ten years.
In the late 80's, Donny returned to the music scene with the hit "Soldier of Love", and then went on to Broadway in the 90's in Joseph's Technicolor Dreamcoat. Donny had attampted Broadway before after the Donny and Marie Show ended, but it was a humiliating flop: it opened and closed in one night.
But Donny returned to Broadway a second time after Joseph's Technicolor Dreamcoat to star as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, and Donny still today releases new albums as well as keeps up with his touring.
