I started tinkering with web design a couple of years ago, when a friend of mine suggested it to me as an outlet for creative impulses.  She was right; the more I learned, the more I fell in love with designing, and soon I was creating my own graphics as well as writing code.  I devoured online tutorials, books and manuals, (and pestered the heck out of friends and family in the computer industry), learning everything I could as fast as I could.  Once I started, I knew that it was something I didn't want to stop, and absoloutely wanted to share.

Webpage design in the past has often been too expensive or too vanilla.  People who don't have a lot of money to spend usually get stuck with sites that are mass-produced (and it shows).  They have the same graphics on their site as the other fifty people in their category of design from their McDesigner, and have little or no actual human contact with the person (usually a group of people, rarely the same one twice) in charge of maintaining their site.  If they want something changed, they are better off praying to the gods of the web and chanting over a volcano than trying to get hold of their webmaster.

To me, this seemed backward.  Small businesses are the ones that can profit the most from moving their business online, even if they aren't involved in ecommerce; having an information site about a small business on the internet is extremely important now that one can use the web as a tool to find people and places in their own home town.  Having a web site that stands out from the crowd is important, and cookie cutter sites don't... well... cut it!

Katydid Web Design was created to offer people a chance to have a site that really stands out from the crowd.  It gives them something unique, that no one else has, as well as a real, human connection with their designer.
