Epilogue to Camelot

Marguerite, Veronica, Malone and Roxton get off the elevator and head for the nearest chairs.

Roxton: What an adventure. Now I just want to do nothing. Roxton sits down in a chair and begins to relax.

Malone: I know what you mean. Im exhausted. Im through being a squire for a while. He also sits down, propping his feet up on the table.

Marguerite: Combing fingers through hair. But you have to admit, I did make a lovely queen.

Veronica: Yes Queen Mother, maybe. Snickering

Marguerite: Whats that suppose to mean? Marguerite stands and puts her hands on her hips and begins glaring at Veronica.

Veronica: Well lets face it; you are old enough to be Gawains mother. Veronica grins.

Marguerite: What? I have you know Im only old enough to be his older sister.

Veronica: Laughing outright. Must be quite a few years between you. How old were you when he was born? Twenty?

Marguerite: Im only five or six years older than Gawain. Marguerite is becoming angry.

Veronica: Laughs hysterically Yeah and Im ten.

Marguerite: Oh are we talking about the age you act? Well in that case I agree.

Veronica stands, facing Marguerite. Her face is flushed and there is fire in her eyes.

Roxton and Malone quickly get up and get between the two women before they can come to blows.

Roxton: You made a lovely queen. Roxton smiles at Marguerite.

Malone: Veronica you were so courageous.

Veronica and Marguerite begin to calm down.a little.

The two men continue trying to calm the women down and make them forget about this silly quarrel.

Roxton: That was a brave thing you did Marguerite, stepping in from of Gawain, saving his life.

Malone: Veronica we owe you so much. I doubt wed still be alive if it wasnt for you.

Roxton: Marguerite you could have been queen, but you chose us over a kingdom.

Malone: And Veronica, you helped to save Marguerite and us. Malone smiles at the blonde.

Marguerite: Well I disagree. It was I who rescued Veronica from the stockade. Marguerite is in a huff now.

Veronica: Where I wouldnt have been if it wasnt for you in the first place, yelling at Marguerite.

Marguerite: Why you little

Roxton: Now, now ladies. Theres no need for this. Again he and Malone step between the two women.

By this time the two women are glaring at each other.

Malone: Yes I think this was a joint effort. Although if Marguerite hadnt got us into this mess, wed been better off.

Roston: What do you mean by that? It wasnt her fault. Veronica was supposed to be standing guard. Roxton glares at Malone.

Malone: You have to admit Roxton, Marguerite has a way of finding trouble and it usually endangers us all. Facing Roxton and refusing to back down.

Roxton: Regardless of the past, I dont know how you can possibly blame Marguerite for this. If anyone is at fault, its Veronica.

Malones face turns red. Veronicas fault? How could you possible blame her? Shes completely innocent.

Roxton: Innocent He looks at Malone with a surprised expression on his face. We know Veronica doesnt like Marguerite. So maybe she wasnt watching as closely as she should have.

Malone: What? He is incredulous that Roxton could believe this. That is ridiculous. Veronica would never do that. Im just surprised Marguerite didnt offer Veronica to Gawain in place of herself.

Roxton has grown very angry with Malone and begins to move towards him, when Marguerite and Veronica walk in front of them, with their backs to the men.

Veronica and Marguerite look at each other and both roll their eyes.

Marguerite: Grunts and pounds chest with her fists Men

Veronica: I agree. Shakes her head.

Marguerite: Theyre so uncivilized.

Veronica: I know. You would think they were still living in the dark ages.

The men stare at the women incredulously.

Marguerite: Its because they always have to be The man

Veronica rolls her eyes again.

Marguerite: Come on Veronica. Lets go get cleaned up and leave these neatherdrals to their own devices.

Veronica: Sounds good to me.

Veronica and Marguerite walk off, leaving the men alone.

The men watch the women walk away.

Malone: Roxton what just happened here. I dont understand.

Roxton: Dont ask me.

The two shake their heads and then sit back down and begin to relax.

Malone: Roxton do you think well ever understand women?

Roxton: Not in this lifetime, Neddy Boy. Women ! Cant live with them and we sure cant live without them. Both men laugh.
