My Favorite Room
Katy Betz

The reds of the carpet reflect my mood
I feel warm inside:  Happy and calm.

Subtle blues in the drapes give me relief,
I know I can shut out the world if I want.

Greens glimmer from books on high shelves.
They remind me that there is still much to learn.

Yellow radiates from the soft, honey wood,
Bringing the beauty of nature within my reach.

White shines from the wall, its so pure and clear
I know that the world cant be all that bad.

I remember things from this room,
Memories that I treasure and cherish:

This is the room where we open presents
On cold, blustery Christmas mornings;

This is the room where we play with my cat;
She happily rolls around on the carpet;

This is the room from which we see the arrival of guests
Joyful memories of fun family parties;

This is the room I land in when I fall down the stairs,
(Mostly my pride is hurt, but I always get better);

This is the room from which we watch the sun set
As we settle in for a comfortable night of TV;

This is the room where we hold family meetings,
Discussions of the future and what to do;

This is the room I crawled in when I was little;
This is the room Ill return to when Im older.

Right now, this room is a haven for me,
A place to calm down and relax, a place to be me.
