| MIKA is a support group for Kidney Patients, family members and friends to become a part of and make a difference throughout the communities of Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. |
| MIKA isn't a replacement for the Vancouver Island Kidney Foundation or the BC Kidney Foundation, rather a springboard to provide an outlet to bring together information about what these societies can provide and more. Hopefully MIKA can bring a voice to the people of the Mid Island Communities. |
| Kidney Disease and Renal Failure can affect people at any stage of their life. Kidney Disease is on the rise. When this life changing event imposeses itself on a person it affects the whole family. We hope to be able to assist families as a whole in coping with these changes. We hope to provide literature, peer support, and to help share the knowledge of what to expect, as the family moves into the general maintenance of Renal Failure. |
| Patients of Upper Vancouver Island have to expect a long stay in Victoria BC as they begin their first Dialysis treatments. Then they can have several visits annually back to Victoria. With our diverse climate and long road travels from Vancouver Island communities to commute it would be a greater benefit to have affordable housing located in Victoria. We are hoping to raise funds towards a MIKA Transitional House in Victoria for out of towners to stay as they wait for placement at their local township Diaylsis Unit. |
