Man or Animal?
Does that sound like a silly question for someone to be asking?
Of course it does, because we all can tell the difference, Right?
But just think for a minute about the way you live
When we leave, for work, or vacation, or the grocery store, rarely do we consider that the things, left in the safety of our home, will be different when we return.
We don't think about other persons freely coming into our bedrooms and going through the things we keep there.
And if it does happen to us, we call it a list of different things, trespassing, invasion of privacy, burglary, robbery... and we call the police, to make a report,.
Some have insurance, that can replace the things lost or destroyed and get highly irritated if it isn't done just right and quickly enough.
Prison inmates don't have the option of having things Private, it's too risky to let them keep things that could be turned into weapons.
I'm not going to say that they even need that , but my biggest complaint, where this is concerned, is about the way it's done.
Their cells are gone through without regard to personal and legal belongings.
Their things ripped and torn apart as if they were nothing of importance.
Pictures, thrown about and walked on, like some ones old trash.
Some of the things destroyed are pretty expensive to replace, like TV, radios and such, but it still goes on and on, every day without fail.
If the prisoners complain, they get very little response, or none at all and then, their at the mercy of the vindictive staff, that did the deeds, to start with and the next search is even worse.
Sometimes, even being set up, by offended officers, just to teach the inmates, who's boss.
If this was the way you had to live, would you call this place humane?
I know I wouldn't... but a lot of inmates don't know any other way to live.
They have no families, to even say they can go home to... their family is right in there with them.
I'm not saying to run out and adopt a prisoner, so they can find a real family, by all means, be careful, if you decide to even pen pal with someone in prison, but I am saying that that there is someone out there, who can put a stop to this kind of treatment, IF they choose to do so..
Not all the officers and officials are bad, either... I don't even mean to imply that, at all.
I know quite a few that have helped me, in so many ways, but these go unnoticed, because of the ones that do push their authority, way beyond the limits.
I'm also not trying to say all prisoners are the best company to keep either, some don't act any better than animals and likely deserve to be treated like they act toward others.
But even those kind of prisoners need help, to find a better alternative to bad behavior.
Our prisons have almost totally forgotten their true purpose, in our society... Rehabilitation ... It's become a place to store, social rejects, instead of instructing them.
Teaching them, that there are people who really care about the way things are being done, inside our prisons, as well as out.
Most of the inmates, admit that they have done wrong
and some will also claim the unjust treatment, is more that they deserve, when they know they deserve a lot more than they get,
but what ever happened to education and rehabilitation in our prisons
and for cripes sake, where does our system got off on allowing such treatment of human life and property,
without a second thought, when one of the inmates do complain... If you have any answers to this please feel free to leave us a note in our guest book.., Thanks for listening! ~KattN~
