| Hi. My names Joseph Anthony Aufenthie, and I'm a recent graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachlors of Arts and Sciences in Women's Studies and Ethnic Studies, and a focus on Gender. In case you're wondering, gender is my life. I was born May 17th, 1985 in Paulding County, at the local Hospital to Wilma Ann Price (Nov. 4 1952- Febuary 10, 2004). I spent most of my childhood is St. Cloud, Minnesota, but seeminly moved back and forth from Minnesota to Ohio throughout Junior HIgh and High School. I went to several high schools which included Celina Senior High from 2000-2002, Technical High School, 2002-2003, Sauk Rappids - Rice High School 2002, and Paulding High School 2003 (which is where I graduated from). In High School I was in a variety of activities like accapella choir, I wrote for Tech's Newspaper the "Montage". And I was in several plays and musicals from Oklahoma, the Mikado, and Once Upon a Mattress. I also was in Ceramics, and made many beautiful peices in clay, and to this day I have an avid appreciaton for art and artists. Also during high school I worked with St. Cloud State University where I helped Alliance and Outloud with activism projects, as well as LGBTQA community building. During that time I went post-secondary in music taking Russian Choir and Voice Lessons. I got accepted into BGSU for the Spring 2004 semester, and started off majoring in Interior Design, as it was always what I thought I would be doing. I found the program wasn't exactly what I wanted, and ended up finding women's studies, realizing that as a gay man, I was connected inherantly to women and the women's movement. I spent four years working on that degree, learned a lot, and met a lot of wonderful women. It's a personal dream to work at a battered women's shelter, as that is part of my childhood history, surviving domestic violence by my father. I would also like to work on housing projects for homeless LGBTQ youth, as well as maybe work for an LGBTQ community center/non-profit. I would like to educate the communities as well about the situation/intersection of domestic violence and LGBT couples. I would also like to publish a book of poetry, as well as an auto-biography. Right now, I reside in Paulding, Ohio working a small job (but enjoying it) while hoping to get into Americorps. From there I hope to get into Graduate School and persue social work. |
