Why have so many people jumped on the "I hate 'em 'cause they're new" bandwagon? I think the new ponies (1997 and on) do a lot of neat things for a collector like me.
The neatest arguement I've ever seen that disputes the whole laundry list of complaints about the new ponies' body types is - why doesn't anyone complain about flutter ponies then? I mean, they're both skinnier than Cotton Candy, their bodies do strange things (be it flutter wings or Moon Shadow picking up a bow), or the fact that they're so delicate.
I like using the new ponies for my website because it gives me fewer constraints. I can give the new ponies personalities alll their own. Since Hasbro put out the My Little Pony and Friends cartoons and The Movie, some of the older ponies' personalities have been pretty much set in my mind. Wind Whistler's the brainy one, Fizzy's the talkitive one, Gusty's the loudmouth, Paradise knows all the stories... it goes on and on. I look up at my new pony collection and my mind runs wild with new adventures. Maybe the new ponies don't live in Dream Valley... they have a ballroom castle and a wedding chapel... they have pagers, cell phones, sun glasses, radios... it's just more modern.
The new ponies also strike me as being a bit more sassy. They look like the kind that could go to a disco or a night club and rock out! Don't let those smiles fool you either, they're a lot smoother with the guys than Heart Throb ever was.
