Katoomba Cricket Welcomes New Patron

Bob Debus meets the Katoomba Cricket Club
Back Row: Evan Deacon, Paul Cooper, Mark Blackburn, Sean Cooke, Adrian O'Toole, Bob Debus, Brad Langham, Ben Grey, Don Hooper: Front Row: Phil Doyle, Blair Kavanaugh, Lee Hinton

The Katoomba Cricket Club welcomed its new patron recently when Bob Debus stepped into the role.

"Katoomba is a young club, being reformed in recent years," said club secretary Phil Doyle. "It's great having someone with Bob's experience to provide the sort of mentorship and leadership experience that will really help a young club."

Katoomba Cricket Club prides itself on being an inclusive club, bringing opportunities to play cricket to a diverse section of the community.

As well as welcoming Mr Debus, Katoomba is also embarking on a planned expansion program that will see junior cricket re-introduced to Katoomba after a long absence.

Katoomba Cricket is holding cricket sessions for kids aged 8-14 at Peter Carroll field on Thursday's from 4pm to 5.30pm.

"To encourage kids to get involved we are holding the sessions for free," said Mr Doyle. "The idea is that kids can come down and have some fun and learn some cricket skills without having the pressure of having to play competition cricket.

"Everyone is welcome."

Katoomba Cricket Club is hoping that kids involved with the Thursday afternoon sessions will form the nucleus of junior sides for next season.

To launch the club's expansion program a monster Christmas raffle is being held, which many Katoomba businesses have got behind.

"We really want to thank the business community of Katoomba for getting behind their local club." Said Mr Doyle. "It's a testament to the vibrant spirit in Katoomba that there is this sort of support in the community."

The Blue Mountains most progressive club, the Katoomba Cricket Club is looking to expand juniors and seniors for season 2007-2008 in the Blue Mountains Cricket Association. We are also planning a number of initiatives that will see the Katoomba Cricket Club featuring a raised profile in the broader community.

We would like to invite businesses in the upper mountains to become partners in our major fundraising initiative for next season, our Monster Guessing Competition-Raffle Hamper, by donating goods and services to be included in the raffle.

The guessing competition-raffle will be conducted on a regular and prominent basis around the upper mountains from September to December, being drawn close to Christmas. Businesses that become Fundraising Partners will be featured prominently in ongoing publicity for the raffle. Tickets will be $5.00 each.

We are also inviting businesses to be ongoing fundraising partners with involvement in direct sponsorship with the club. Sponsorship packages start from as little as $100.00 and provide local businesses a superb opportunity to connect their brand with the local community.

The Katoomba Cricket Club Website at www.katoombacc.com features prominently on searches for 'Katoomba' and 'Cricket' offering a great opportunity to promote your business to the wider sporting community.

If you would like to know more about getting your business "on the team" contact the Katoomba Cricket Club:
