THE EATON FAMILY

JOHN C. EATON

John was born in 1772 and died in 1842. He married first (?) and second, Elizabeth "Betsy" Marsh. Elizabeth was born in 1798 and died in 1860. John came to Texas before the Texas Revolution and staked a claim along the Brazos River as part of the Robertson Colony. The Spanish refused to recognize his claim and he left. He next showed up in Nacogdoches (second trip?) where he and wife Betsy joined the Old North (Union) Church in early 1838. And were dismissed by letter in May 1838. There he met and contracted with Richard Sparks to survey some land. After Richard was killed by indians, John and Betsy returned to Tennessee leaving the others behind. Their youngest grandson went with them and all three of them died within months of each other in Tennessee

JOEL CALVIN EATON

Joel was born in 1797 and died in 1827. He was married to Elizabeth Hart. They had at least 6 children, Alfred, John C., Nancy, Joel, Samual Hart and George. Sometime after they had moved to Nacogdoches County, Texas, Joel died. After Joel died, Elizabeth remarried to a man named Heath and they had two daughters named Sarah and Elizabeth. (George W. Melton, also of Nacogdoches County, married Sarah Heath in 1849 and she died shortly afterward. Then he married her sister Elizabeth Heath in 1850.)

JOHN C. EATON


John was born circa 1819 in Tennessee. On September 18, 1842 John married Cincinnatta "Cynthia" Caroline Melton, the sister of George W. and Jeptha Melton in Nacogdoches County (Later Rusk County). Cynthia and John had five sons Joel, George, James C., Thomas, and John "Johnny" C..

After Richard Sparks will was probated, John received Richard's blacksmith tools for payment of grandpa's survey work and became a blacksmith. Later in the census he was called a grain merchant. After John died in September of 1852, Caroline married Richard Magee on. May 17, 1854.

JOEL EATON

Joel was born in 1842 in Rusk County, Texas. He married Ida (?) and they had 1 known child, Laura. In 1850 he was living in Smith County. By 1871 he had moved to Collin County, Texas.

GEORGE EATON

George was born in 1844 in Rusk County, Texas. He married Lucinda V. Jeffries on May 18,1865 and they had at least two children, Frank and Wesley. By 1871 he had moved to Benton, Arkansas

JAMES C. EATON

James was born in 1846 in Rusk County, Texas. In 1855 he moved to Rains County with his mother and stepfather Richard Magee. By 1870 he had moved to Smith County, Texas and was living there with his brother Joel.

THOMAS EATON

Thomas was born in 1850 in Rusk County, Texas. In 1855 he moved to Rains County with his mother and stepfather Richard Magee. In 1871 he was still living in Rains County

JOHN "JOHNNY" C. EATON

John was born in 1852 in Rusk County, Texas. In 1855 he moved to Rains County with his mother and stepfather Richard Magee. In 1872 he married Armenda "Mandy" E. Melton. They had 9 children including, Florence E., G. Carl, F. Walter, Lillie, Quille, Wesley, Harvey, and Cal. In 1900 they were still living in Rains County, Texas.

NANCY EATON

Nancy was born in 1820

SAMUEL HART EATON

Samuel was born in 1823.

GEORGE EATON

George was born in 1825 in Tennessee. He married Tempe Ann Cooper on January 6, 1848. His wife (2nd.?) in the 1870 census was Louisa. She was born in 1828 in Virginia. He had at least 7 children including Tempe, Jeff L., George2, Ida, William A., Eva, and Thomas. With them in 1870 was 25 years old James Eaton.

ALFRED EATON

Alfred was born in 1826. He married Jane Cooper on December 12, 1850.
