Visiting With The Girls
In Memory of Safire
(Indio's Kwik Kick) 1995-2005)

Safire was set free from Protein-Losing Enteropathy.  Donated to the Dancing Greyhounds by GPA-Florida Southeast Coast in October 1998, she quickly discoverd there was no more ecstatic experience than to be in a show ring with an appreciative audience.  Known as "Gil's Girl," she exulted in leaping from a Sit to higher than his shoulder and derived greyt enjoyment from doing the "Leap Frog" with both Chey and Ms. ME!  She designed several new acts for the Team and added the singing portion when they changed their format to a comedy show.  A couch potato she was NOT!

She was photographed for the July 2000 Greyhound Monthly (UK), Vol. 2, Issue 7, "
The Gilley Greyhound Gymnasts!" by Michael Maguire; 2001; Barron's Education Series: Greyhounds, by D. Caroline Coile, Ph.D; the 2001 Popular Dog Series: Greyhounds, Vol. 20, for the Editors of Dog Fancy magazine; September 2003, The Greyhound Review, Vol. 31, "The Far Turn/In Search of the Big Picture"; "The Visit," Maddog McDermutt; October 2003 - St Jude Showcase of Dogs, "Just Because They Are Retired Doesn't Mean They Can't Have Fun;"  The Greyhound Project's calendar and GC magazine, Spring 2004; Dog World - Japan edition No. 580, December 2004; "Dog Racers Turned Entertainers - the Greyhound Dancing Team," and many newspaper and TV appearances.

Oh, Safire!  We grieve for the loss of you; we rejoice that you are forever free.
