THE MUSIC PAGE

I've been playing bass guitar for a little over five years; I got my first bass guitar on December 4, 1995.  So far I've been in two bands -- one in high school and one currently at college.  It wasn't like it was any big deal; it was just sort of something that we did in our spare time, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.  We used to go to our drummer's house, all four of us, and jam for a good couple of hours; sometimes we even recorded some of our material on his 4-track.  We even made put our songs on a CD -- one that was burned on our friend's computer.  That's what happens when you don't have a record contract.

Some of my favorite bands include U2, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Faith No More, Alice in Chains, Tool, Pantera, Rush, Tori Amos, Anthrax, Biohazard, Marilyn Manson, King's X, Yngwie Malmsteen, Slayer, and Nine Inch Nails.  All of these groups have affected me in some way at some point; for instance, my love for Faith No More's
King For a Day, Fool For a Lifetime album changed my life musically.  I've probably listened to that album much more than any other I own.  The only one I value just as much is Rush's Moving Pictures album.  I still can't stop listening to it, seeing as though Geddy Lee is my hero.  I'm still learning how to play "YYZ"; it's a tough song that I hope to cover live someday.

Below is a list of links to the review of the album of the week, as well as my personal rating system.  It is there that I will critique an album that I may own myself or may be borrowing from another person.  You may also, if you wish, suggest to me an album to review and I will do my best to hunt it down and review it.  If you have a suggestion, please E-mail me at [email protected].

Rating System
5 - Fucking incredible
4 - An honorable and praiseworthy musical composition
3 - Tolerable
2 - Will require therapy after listening
1 - So terrible that it ruptures the fabric of time and space with its overwhelming levels of mediocrity
