| June 9, 2001 NMSU athletic/soccer fields ROCKET: Yellow Jacket LAUNCH: 24 MOTOR USED: B4-4 SUMMARY: No more D12-3's yet, so I thought I'd go back to old YJ. Good launch and decent recovery. One of the parachute's shroudlines snapped at ejection, but I thought I could still fly it. ROCKET: Yellow Jacket LAUNCH: 25 MOTOR USED: B4-4 SUMMARY: Another good flight, but with a terrible finish. Parachute snapped completely off and the rocket crashed to the ground -- specifically, an asphalt parking lot. 40 more feet and it would have ended up across a chain-link fence in a baseball field, where the sprinklers happened to be on. Partially dislodged a fin on impact; not having the glue or the new parachute on hand, I went home. I was hoping to get in the 26th launch with my last B4-4, but that will have to wait a while. DAMAGE REPORT: Destroyed parachute; dislodged fin on Yellow Jacket. |
