| May 28, 2001 -- Memorial Day NMSU athletic/soccer fields ROCKET: Razor LAUNCH: 4 MOTOR USED: B6-4 SUMMARY: Good launch, but despite the three sheets of recovery wadding, the recovery streamer was completely incinerated. I wish these recovery problems would just stop. I'll fix it later. ROCKET: Razor LAUNCH: 5 MOTOR USED: B6-4 SUMMARY: Another nice flight, but a gust of wind carried the rocket about 300 feet downrange. Almost lost it on the roof of the activity center (NMSU gym and weight room). If a streamer was on it, I would have lost it. No recovery sent it crashing to the ground. Sustained little damage; only one of the six tube fins were slightly squashed. Repaired on the field. ROCKET: Razor LAUNCH: 6 MOTOR USED: B4-4 SUMMARY: Good flight. Lost it in the sun, but I heard it crash to the ground a few feet behind me. ROCKET: Razor LAUNCH: 7 MOTOR USED: B4-4 SUMMARY: Decent flight, but the tube is showing signs of burning. There's a little dark spot just forward of the motor mount. I'm beginning to think that the rocket could catch fire on any of its next flights. We'll wait until Saturday to find out. I'm going home; I need my last five motors for that day. DAMAGE REPORT: Recovery streamer burned; tube fin on Razor beginning to crease heavily; body tube on Razor beginning to burn. |
