Dear readers,
I came up with this tragedy idea when I saw a page that had a special section for tragedy. I have read many terribly sad books and am somewhat curious of cancer and the affects it has on people. I am merely using the characters on Dawson's Creek for satisfaction of my curiosity. I love Pacey! So don't be mad at me. I'll write a happier series soon. And I would also like to inform you that I have researched the topic so all my info should be correct.

*When I write a characters name underlined that is the person's thought on what has already happened. I will often put that in the middle of part of the story. The story always continues where it left off afterwards.*

Pacey's brother arrived in front of school right on time. He was waiting for Pacey so he could drive him home. Doug's mother had begged and pleaded that he be there on time to make sure Pacey got home alright. He agreed.

Pacey walked out of school and saw Doug's police cruiser parked. His brother waved and Pacey jogged over. "What do you want Doug?"

"Don't give me any crap Pacey just get in."

"Why?"

"Because Mom told me to pick you up. So stop wasting my time and get in!"

"Okay. Okay. Relax." He opened the passenger side door and got in.

On the ride home they didn't have much to say to each other. Finally they reached the house and Pacey got out and thanked Doug. He sped away as Pacey walked up the steps to the house. He sighed and opened the door.

Mrs. Witter was standing in the kitchen. "Pacey, honey. How was school?"

"Fine." He walked swiftly up the stairs. His mother shrugged.

"What am I going to do with him?"

Joey had decided that she should steer clear of Pacey for a little while. He seemed very upset. She decided Dawson's would be safer. She climbed up the ladder to find Jen already there.

"Hi guys." Jen turned.

"Oh. Hey Joey. Why don't you join us?" She gestured to the plate of cookies on Dawson's bed.

"Yea Jo." "I don't want to intrude or anything." Jen waved a dismissive hand.

"No. C'mon Jo take a load off." Joey smiled and took a cookie.

"So. Did you talk to Pacey?" Jen asked tentatively.

"I think he needs to be left alone for a while." She bit on her cookie and chewed quietly. Dawson took one, too.

"He probably does. He didn't really seem like himself today." Jen nodded.

"That's natural. He's probably just scared." Joey thought about that.

"Of what?" Jen swallowed a piece of cookie.

"Of dying Joey. That doesn't mean he's going to, but there's always the possibility." Dawson shook his head.

"No way Jen. That'll never happen. I mean this is Pacey we're talking about."

"Just because he's Pacey doesn't mean he's invincible or immortal. If he can get sick he obviously isn't."

"I don't want to talk about this anymore, guys," Joey said sadly. She felt tears forming in her eyes. "I don't even wanna think about that."

Joey hesitated at Pacey's bedroom door. She raised her hand to knock and then decided against it. She did that about three times and finally worked up the courage to actually knock.

She was surprised when he opened it. His eyes were red and he wasn't wearing a shirt. She tried to tear her vision from his chest.

"Is there something you want Joey?"

"Um. I just wanted to see if you were okay. Are you okay?" He shrugged. She moved closer to him and he looked at her briefly.

"I'm sorry about before Joey. I shouldn't have blown up like that."

"It's not your fault."

"Yea it is. I'm just a little stressed out," he explained.

"I understand Pacey. You don't have to apologize." He smiled, but it didn't last long. Joey pulled him into a hug. She rubbed his back and he started to relax. He pulled back and kissed her softly. She smiled and did the same. A grin crossed his face, and stayed there.

THE NEXT DAY

Joey looked around her class, scanning the room for Pacey. She didn't see him. A few terrible thoughts crossed her mind. She walked up to the teachers desk.

"Can I help you Ms. Potter?"

"Is Pacey Witter in today?" "No. He won't be in school today"

"Do you know why not?"

The teacher looked annoyed. "If you must ask, his mother said he wasn't feeling well."

"Oh. Thanks." She turned on her heels and walked nervously back to her seat.

Pacey was lying in bed trying to go back to sleep. He had woken up with a pounding headache. The aspirin his mother had given him wasn't working. He got up and walked into the bathroom.

He carefully opened the medicine cabinet and fumbled with a bottle of sleeping pills. He pulled off the cap and accidentally dropped all the pills to the floor. He dropped to his knees and started picking them up and putting them all back in. He took two with a glass of water and walked back to his room. Wincing, he swallowed them one by one and soon drifted back to sleep.

Dawson, Joey and Jen sat quietly at lunch. A few people had already asked what Pacey's problem was. Joey had snapped at all of them and left the threesome with nothing to say to each other.

Dawson soon got sick of the silence and spoke. "Do you know why Pacey's absent, Jo?"

"His mom said he wasn't feeling well."

"Oh. Well, you guys want to go to his house after school and see how he's doing?" Joey stood.

"How about we go right now?"

"What about school Joey?" asked Jen.

"Jen, who cares about school? Let's go." Jen and Dawson looked at each other and reluctantly agreed.

Mrs. Witter opened the door and let the Dawson, Joey, and Jen in. "Shouldn't you kids be in school?"

"We just wanted to see if Pacey was okay."

"You can go on up if you want, but I think he's sleeping."

Dawson slowly opened the door to Pacey's room. He was sound asleep and Dawson noticed a glass of water that was half full on his night table. Joey walked over to him and touched his face. *Poor Joey.* Jen thought.

Pacey stirred. Joey stepped back, afraid to wake him. "I'll come back later," she whispered. She squeezed his hand and walked out the door. Dawson and Jen followed.

LATER THAT DAY

Joey climbed the stairs quietly to Pacey's room. She knocked softly. Pacey opened it, looking half-asleep. "Hi Joey."

His voice sounded tired, as if he had just woken up. "Do you want me to come back later?" He shook his head.

"No. C'mon in." She sat down on his unmade bed.

"So how was your day, Pacey?" "I don't know. I think I was asleep pretty much all day."

She punched his shoulder. "Lucky." He laughed.

"How was your day?"

"Oh. It was okay. I missed you." She looked at him and he smiled.

"You're in a good mood aren't you?" He nodded.

"You missed me, huh?"

"Would I lie to you?" He smiled and she leaned in to kiss him. He placed his hand on her shoulder and kissed her back.
