Dear readers,
I came up with this tragedy idea when I saw a page that had a special section for tragedy. I have read many terribly sad books and am somewhat curious of cancer and the affects it has on people. I am merely using the characters on Dawson's Creek for satisfaction of my curiosity. I love Pacey! So don't be mad at me. I'll write a happier series soon. And I would also like to inform you that I have researched the topic so all my info should be correct.

*When I write a characters name underlined that is the person's thought on what has already happened. I will often put that in the middle of part of the story. The story always continues where it left off afterwards.*

Dawson
I can still remember Joey's mom. She was nice. I also remember how sad Joey was when she died. Now I'm losing a friend and I feel the exact same way.

Jen
When I first found out what was wrong I was shocked. We all were. I kept thinking of ways I could help. There is absolutely nothing I can do.

Joey
This is all so unreal. I've already lost my mother, I don't want to lose my boyfriend, too.

Pacey
Life used to be so simple. I really miss those days. I've never been so frightened in my entire life. I miss the simple days of three weeks ago.

TWO WEEKS EARLIER

Dawson, Joey, Jen, and Pacey are sitting at lunch together. Joey and Pacey are holding hands underneath the table. "I have such a headache!!" Pacey moans to no one in particular. "Oh. Poor Pacey," Joey says sarcastically. Then she becomes serious. "You've been having a lot of headaches lately." Dawson cuts in. "Maybe you should see a doctor, Pace." Pacey shakes his head. "I'm fine. They're just stupid headaches."

Dawson and Pacey are sitting in Marine Bio for fifth period. Dr. Rand is calling off names as people are handing in papers. He calls Dawson's name, then Pacey's. Dawson hears Pacey complaining about another headache. Next thing he knows Pacey collapses to the floor. Dr. Rand rushes to his side. "Pacey? Pacey can you hear me?" He surveys the room. "Dawson, go get the nurse. Dawson takes off at full speed. He is stopped by the principal in the hallway. "Whoa. Slow down. Where's the fire, Mr. Leery?" "It's in the Marine Bio room. Pacey Witter just passed out." "What?!" "Yea. I really have to get the nurse." He takes off running again.

LATER THAT DAY

Pacey is lying down in a hospital room. He has a hospital gown and a pair of sweats on. One of the doctors gave him something for his headache. Then the doctor walks in. "Well Pacey. How are you feeling?" he sits down in a chair across from Pacey's bed. "My headaches gone." "Good. We're going to have to run some tests. We'll find out what's wrong with you by tomorrow morning. A nurse will be in shortly." He stands. "Thanks." "Your parents are going to come in as soon as they finish filling out some forms." "Okay." "Some of your friends are here, too. Do you feel well enough to see them?" "Sure." The doctor walks out. Pacey lays his head back, feeling very relaxed and sleepy. Joey walks in first, followed by Dawson and Jen. "Hey, Pacey," Joey says and gives him a light kiss on the cheek. "Hey yourself." She smiles. "You feeling any better, man?" "Yea. A little tired though." "How's your head? You fell pretty hard." "They gave me something, so I'm okay." The three nod, not knowing what else to say. Jen breaks the silence. "So how long do you have to stay here?" "Overnight." "Oh. You won't be in school tomorrow then?" "Nah. The doctors want me to rest for a few days." Joey frowns. "Will I be allowed to come and see you?" "I hope so." "Cool." Pacey's parents walk in, followed by a petite, pretty nurse. Pacey smiles. "Hi. I'm Becca. I'm going to take you to have some tests done, Pacey. If you kids wouldn't mind leaving?" She smiles. "No problem. See ya later, Pace." "Bye guys." Dawson, Joey and Jen walk out. Pacey's mother touches his shoulder. "Do you want us to come with you?" Pacey shakes his head. "That won't be necessary Mr. and Mrs. Witter." Becca wheels a wheelchair over to Pacey. "Your chariot awaits." "I can walk." "Nope. Hop in." She smiles and Pacey melts. He nods and sits down.

Dawson
I read somewhere that there is a psychology of dying. And there are different steps. This is what I found; "The Swiss psychiatrist Elisabeth Kubler-Ross found that many dying patients are comforted if someone sits and listens to their openly expressed fears and thoughts. She also observed that many dying patients, after the shock of learning their condition, go through five psychological stages: denial, anger, bargaining, grieving, and acceptance. Patients may be assisted in reaching acceptance by the hospital staff's and family's openly talking about death when the patient so desires.

In the denial stage, the patient refuses to recognize reality and acts as if the disease did not exist. The patient may then become angry, resenting others who enjoy good health and blaming doctors and relatives for their inability to help. In the bargaining stage the patient tries to "buy time," often in the form of prayers asking for "one more year," in return for being a better person. This psychological stage, which is usually brief, is followed by the first true recognition of reality, and the patient then enters the stage of grief or depression, mourning the loss of his or her own life. In the final stage of acceptance, the patient may still be fearful and angry but is now prepared to die with peace and dignity."

I'm guessing Pacey's in stage one.

The next morning Joey woke from a restless sleep. She had been lying awake half the night thinking of Pacey. *I hope he's alright. Please let him be alright.*

Dawson woke in a similar manner. He, too had tossed and turned thinking of possible explanations for Pacey being sick.

Pacey, however, had awoken late, feeling refreshed. He had slept like a rock with little help from a sedative given to him. He had dreamt of Joey.

"Good morning Pacey. Or should I say good afternoon." Becca was cheerful and smiling as usual. "Is it really that late?" "Yes. It's 1:30 pm." "Have they gotten the tests back yet?" "They should be ready soon. Would you like something to eat?" "No thanks. I'm not hungry." "Your parents are still here. Do you want me to send them in?" "Do they want to see me?" He looked unsure. "Of course, silly. They've been asking me all morning when you were going to wake up. They've been worried sick." "You're sure these are my parents we're talking about?" She just laughed. "I'll go get them."

Pacey's mother came in first. Then his father. "How are you feeling Pacey?" "I'm fine, Mom. Really. I slept great. And no headaches for a while." "That's great." Just then the doctor walked in. "Pacey, Mr. and Mrs. Witter, I have some bad news. We found the reason for your headaches and blackout. You have a brain tumor, Pacey."
