Pacey became nervous instantly. Why did history always have that annoying knack for repeating itself? Maybe I should just face the music, he thought wearily.

Both the door and the cabinet opened simultaneously. Pacey sighed as he heard his father's disgusted snort at the top of the stairs.

"I'm getting the slightest feeling of dj vu, Pacey." He cleared his throat. "Dare I ask what the hell you think you're doing?" Pacey lowered his eyes to the ground and reached into the cabinet.

He turned around and stared directly into his father's eyes and took a long swig of the liquor. Grimacing, he swallowed and stared triumphantly at Mr. Witter. "What the hell does it look like?"

Before Pacey could even blink his father's hands were wrapped tightly around his forearms and they were face to face. "It looks like you just took a drink from my liquor cabinet. It looks like my underaged, loser of a son has taken a drink before my very eyes."

Pacey gulped and tried to wriggle out of his father's grasp. But the alcohol had already weakened him and his father seemed much stronger than usual. "Are you doing this to spite me, Pacey?" Pacey shook his head. "Are you?!"

"No!" Mr. Witter loosened his grip and grabbed the violently grabbed the bottle from Pacey's trembling hands. Slowly, deliberately, he twisted the cap back on and placed it neatly into the cabinet. Then he reached for the ring of keys in his pocket and locked it.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," Pacey sobbed. "I didn't mean to..." His voice trailed off. He had meant to spite his father. But he didn't know why.

"You didn't mean to, Pacey?! It just fell right into your mouth, huh? Is that what you're trying to tell me?!" Pacey had no idea what to say. "Is it?!" he screamed.

"No, sir," he managed. He felt a few tears run down his cheeks.

"Don't you cry, Pacey! You did this to yourself!" Pacey tried to hold them back, but the rest of his body wouldn't cooperate. He began to shake and sob.

Suddenly, Mr. Witter grabbed him by the arm and began to drag him up the stairs. It only made him cry harder. They ended up in the first-floor bathroom. Mr. Witter shoved Pacey in front of the antique mirror.

"Open your eyes, Pacey. Look at what you've become." Pacey did as he was told and was absolutely horrified at what he saw.

His fingers traced the mirror. "That's not me," he whispered. "That isn't me."

"Yes, it is." Pacey stared at his own face in the mirror. There were dark circles under his bloodshot eyes. His skin was a yellowish color. His face looked dirty from the tremendous amount of tears he had shed.

"How did I let this happen?" He turned to his father. "What can I do?!" Mr. Witter shook his head sadly.

"You're the only one who knows, Pacey."

Joey stood in front of Pacey's house, feeling absolutely miserable. She didn't like Dawson anymore so why waste her energy on being jealous.

Jen was definitely the reason. For a long time Joey hated her because of the relationship she had with Dawson. Now they were going to start dating again. Joey wasn't sure she could keep that little green monster from reasserting itself.

She sighed and pushed the Witter doorbell. Her main concern now was convincing Pacey that she had feelings for him. He'd never believe it. The boy was just to insecure.

After a few minutes an angry looking Mr. Witter opened the door. He attempted to smile at her, but was clearly too angry to even pretend to be happy.

"I'm not allowing Pacey any visitors today, Joey. Not even you." Joey shot her hand out as he tried to close the door.

"Why not?" He sighed.

"I know you helped him before and I appreciate that, but sadly," he paused and frowned, "it didn't really help."

"He started drinking again?!"

"Yes. I don't know how long he's been doing it, but..."

"It had to have just started today. He hasn't had a drink for at least a week!" Mr. Witter raised his hand.

"Joey, I know you're very concerned, but Pacey needs real help. And he's the only one who can make the decision to get that help." He ran his hand through his thinning hair. "So, until he shapes up you won't be seeing him."

With that he slowly closed the door.

Pacey watched Joey walk away looking dejected. She was disappointed in him. But why should he care what she thought? She was only coming over to tell him she was going back to Dawson anyway.

Maybe his father had been right. Nobody could help him. This was something he had to do himself.

The key was downstairs. He descended the stairs and opened the cabinet. Inside was his salvation. He opened it.

Would AA be in the white pages or the yellow pages?
