8 months from where we last left off:
Pacey crept silently out of bed in his New York City apartment. He tried to be as quiet as he could, walking in the hall to visit his sleeping child.

Pacey opened the door to Tyler Witter's room and sat down in a rocking chair near his crib. Pacey looked at the sleeping baby and smiled. He heard footsteps in the hall and soon after felt a hand on his shoulder.

"He's so beautiful," Pacey whispered. He looked up at Joey, and she nodded. He looked back to the baby and sat quietly.

Joey looked from Tyler to Pacey and back again. They looked alike. Tyler's smile, although toothless, resembled Pacey's, almost exactly. His dark hair just the right color. His eyes exactly like his father's, never staying the same color for too long.

She realized how lucky she was to have Pacey. After they had gotten back together, he had been eager to be married, not wanting Joey to have an illegitimate child. The wedding wasn't large, but it was beautiful. Pacey had never looked more handsome, or happy, than he had on that day.

Their honeymoon was in Capeside, visiting family, and spending time with each other. As it grew nearer to the time the baby would come, Joey had recalled memories of Dawson, and what their children would have looked like.

When she and Dawson were dating, he had complimented her so often, her self-confidence had swelled. She no longer felt unattractive. So many times she imagined beautiful, near perfect children. But never had she expected that her and Pacey's child would be so beautiful.

While she was pregnant, she found herself missing Dawson more than ever. She never expressed her feelings to Pacey because she knew it would hurt him too much. Joey felt if Dawson hadn't died, she wouldn't be pregnant. She wouldn't have needed another man to satisfy her needs. Of course, she wasn't positive that wouldn't have happened, but she felt almost sure. She dreamt of a perfect marriage, a wonderful career, and of course, Dawson Leery. She wouldn't be Josephine Witter, but instead Josephine Leery.

She knew if she ever voiced her feelings to Pacey, he might leave her again. He had told her himself, he wasn't prepared, emotionally, for her to do anything like that to him again. And although she was unhappy with not being totally honest with him, she knew it was for the best.

Now standing beside Pacey, she felt like a failure. She had turned out almost exactly the opposite of what she wanted to be. Joey kissed Pacey on the cheek, and with tears streaming down her face, walked back into her room, and started to pack. As she tossed clothes into a suitcase, she knew Pacey would be better off without her. No matter how much it hurt him, she had to do what was right for Joey.

Pacey would be devastated and furious, but he would eventually get over it. She knew she had enough time to call a hotel and get dressed. Pacey usually spent most of the night looking at his son. She had fought so hard to get him back, and now she had to leave.

Joey walked silently into Tyler's room. Pacey was asleep. She kissed Tyler good night and did the same for Pacey.

"Good-bye, Pacey."
