For three months Pacey had been in pure bliss. Amanda had moved in and he had almost forgotten about Joey. Almost.
"Pacey?"
"What?" Pacey walked out of the bathroom and into their bedroom. He didn't see Amanda.
"Manda, where are you?" Suddenly a hand pulled him to his right. Then a forceful kiss was planted on his lips.
"Found ya," Amanda said slyly.
"Was I lost?"
"Nope," Pacey smiled.
Slowly, she pushed him onto the bed. She climbed on top of him and kissed his forehead, then his lips.
She reached into a night table drawer and pulled out a bag.
She peeled off the foil wrapper.
And popped the Hershey Kiss into his mouth. Pacey smiled, chewed and swallowed. Then she kissed him again.
"Wow. You taste really good now."
"Thanks. Can I have another?"
She kissed him again.
"I meant the chocolate."
Amanda playfully punched him. And as she was pulling out another Hershey, the phone rang.
She laughed and picked it up.
While pinching her nose, she greeted the person on the line.
"Hello. You've reached the Witter residence. How may I help you?"
Pacey laughed.
"Oh. He might be here."
Pacey smiled and whispered, "Ask who it is."
"May I ask who's calling?"
She smiled and turned to Pacey.
"A girl. Says her name's Joey Potter."
Pacey's face fell. He felt a lump forming in his throat. He took the phone from her and slammed it down onto the receiver.
Amanda, still lying on top of him, looked puzzled.
"Why'd you do that?"
"I don't know any Joey."
"You sure? She said she was an old friend. Maybe you just don't..."
"I said I don't know any Joey!"
"Okay, okay. Sorry."
She frowned and started to climb off of him. He wrapped his arms around her waist.
"I didn't meant to yell at you. I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I just didn't think you'd get so upset over a stupid phone call. It's not that big a deal, Pacey.
"I know, I said I was sorry."
"You're forgiven. Now how 'bout that kiss?"
New York
"Hello?! Hello?! Damn it!" Joey slammed down her phone.
"Wrong number again?"
"No, it was him. He hung up. Or maybe the girl hung up? I don't know!"
Joey sat down on the couch. She was three months pregnant now, but barely showed it. Erin sat down next to her and put a hand on her shoulder.
"At least you found the number. Who knew there were so many P. Witters in California?"
"Yeah. I guess. Maybe I can fly out there now?"
"But you don't have an address. And didn't you say a girl answered the phone? Maybe he has a new girlfriend?"
"How could he? It hasn't been that long."
"Yeah it has. Three months since he left. And he's a good looking guy."
"What does that have to do with it? He was in tears when he left! It looked like he'd never trust another woman again! I could tell by the expression on his face!"
"Look I don't know anything for sure! It could have been a friend from work or something. Just don't jump down my throat when your pissed, because Gretchen and I are the only friends you've got."
Los Angeles
"Pacey?" Pacey turned from the sink.
"Yeah?"
"Did you really not know that girl? Because I think you do. If she's an ex-girlfriend or something I can handle that. I just want you to tell me the truth."
"That might take awhile..."
Amanda walked over to him and put her arms around his shoulders.
"Please. Take as long as you want. Just tell me the truth."
* * * * * "So let me get this straight. Make sure I have all the facts.
This guy Dawson, your uh, your brother?"
"My best friend."
"Oh yeah. So your best friend, Dawson, dies.
That bumps you up to boyfriend status with Joey. It's Joey right?"
"Yeah."
"Okay. Then you two move to New York, go to college together, and eventually graduate.
She meets another guy. Uses him for sex..."
"No! He used her for sex."
"Okay. He used her for sex. She gets knocked up and tries to use that factor to get the guy to fall in love with her.
You find out. Get your heart broken. Well, demolished is a better word. And then you flee the state."
"That about wraps it up."
"Wait, I'm not done yet. Now she's calling you because she wants you back.
And I'm guessing it's either because the other guy blew her off, like a typical male, or..."
