On the plane, Pacey tried his best not to cry. It had been hard enough saying good-bye to his parents. Not too many years ago he would have been happy to leave them far behind. But after Dawson's death, they were better parents. Pacey suspected they felt a little scared at the thought of losing one their children.

Pacey had stopped by to tell the Leerys what had happened. They were astonished when he told them about Joey. He didn't stay long, because they had made him think of Dawson. And Dawson reminded him of Joey. He gave the Leerys his number in Los Angeles and asked them not to give it to Joey under any circumstances. They agreed.

Now the flight attendant was telling him they were about to land, and he felt a bit relieved. He would be in his new home soon.

Back in New York

"Joey, you have to relax," Erin said in a soothing voice. Joey was on the couch crying and shaking. Gretchen was pacing the floor. She gave Erin a look. Erin narrowed her eyes. "Gretch, don't say it."

Gretchen tried not to, but she did. "I told you so. I knew this would happen Joey. I told you it would." She had a look of defiance on her face. Joey stared at her, with tear-filled eyes. "Shut up, Gretchen," she spat. "You think I don't feel bad enough?"

"You!" Gretchen shook her head. "What about Pacey? You broke his heart. You drove him away! And you're here feeling sorry for yourself! Find him! Call his parents. Or call Bessie. See if he's in Capeside. Call his boss. There are so many things you could be doing, but you insist on wallowing in self pity. Frankly, Joey, it's pathetic."

Joey realized what truth Gretchen's words had. She stood and picked up the phone.

Los Angeles

"This is the bedroom, the living room, and the kitchen," Pacey's landlord said, with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. She hadn't moved from the doorway, while pointing out the different rooms.

To Pacey's surprise, the apartment was quite nice. It was smaller than the one in New York, but nice.

"Thanks."

"You need anything, call the repairman in 5D. I'm no slave," she said, as she left.

"Uh-huh." Pacey turned on the radio.

You're just too good to be true,
Can't take my eyes off of you,
You'd be like heaven to touch,
I want to hold you so much,
At long last love has arrived,
And I thank God I'm alive,
You're just too good to be true,
Can't take my eyes off of you.....

Pacey turned off the radio.

"I miss you, Joey."

New York

I need you, baby,
If its quite all right
I need you, baby,
To warm the lonely night,
I love you, baby,
Trust in me
when,
I,
say,
Oh babe.........
Oh pretty baby,
Don't let me down, I pray
Oh pretty baby
Now that I've found you,
Stay.
And let me love you
Oh baby, let me love you
Oh baby..........

Joey turned off the radio.

"I miss you, Pacey."

"Thank you again, Mrs. Nolfo. Really? That's wonderful. Yeah, this office is great. All your offices are great, I guess. No matter where they are. Ok. Tell him I said thanks. Ok. Bye." Pacey hung up the phone.

He sighed. Then he looked down at all the work he had. He sighed again. "It's like I never left New York."

"Like you what?" Pacey turned to see a tall, beautiful, blonde standing behind him.

His jaw dropped. "Um. Like I never left, uh, New York."

"You're from New York? Wow. I wish I lived in New York. Oh, sorry. I'm Amanda." She extended her hand.

"I'm Pacey."

"Nice to meet you. I guess we'll be working together, huh?"

Pacey couldn't believe his luck. A new girl was all he needed to get his mind off of Joey. "Yeah, I guess."

"Maybe we could get together after work. I could show you around. If you want to?"

"Sure. Yeah. I'd love to."

"Great. I'll see you later."

"Yeah."

"No! You didn't!" Amanda cried. "You're nuts! You could have been arrested!"

"I know!" Pacey was laughing himself into hysterics. Amanda was giggling like a hyena.

After a few drinks, Pacey had loosened up. They had come back to Amanda's for coffee, but plans had changed. Now he found himself telling her about Tamara. For some reason she thought it was funny. But he was laughing right along with her.

Pacey hiccuped. Amanda started laughing again. He covered his mouth, trying to hide the stupid grin on his face.

Amanda moved closer to him on the couch. She was about to kiss him. Then he hiccuped again. She burst out laughing.

"I want to kiss you, Pacey. But, you have to stop hiccuping!"

"I don't think I can!"

Pacey tried to hold his breath, but Amanda made a funny face and he stopped.

"You have to let me get rid of them!"

"I'll help."

She kissed him. He opened his mouth to her. Amanda put her arms around his neck and climbed into his lap. Pacey put his hands on her hips. Then she pulled away.

"Pacey, I. I've never done this before."

"You've never made out with a guy before?"

"No! I've never, had sex with someone on the first date."

"We're going to have sex?"

"Sure."

"Oh. Okay."
