"So, you don't want a relationship at all?!" Joey was becoming more and more emotional by the second. That had been happening a lot lately.
"I told you. No," his last word did it. She burst into tears.
"Not even if I told you I was pregnant?!"
At that exact moment, Pacey opened the door. He had a red rose in his hand.
His jaw practically hit the floor, then he saw Seth.
"Pacey!" Joey cried. She walked over to him and tried to throw her arms around him. He backed away.
"Who's that?" he asked pointing to Seth. Joey twisted her fingers nervously. "That's uh. He's um," Joey stuttered. "Seth. My name's Seth. And you must be Pasty."
Pacey frowned. "Pacey." "Oh. Pacey. The boyfriend." He smiled icily at Joey. He could never help but feel jealous every time he met one of these guys.
Pacey looked at Joey, obviously confused. She couldn't meet his eyes. "Seth, please."
"Please what? Tell him about our affair? Gladly." Joey shook her head violently. Seth only smiled. "Sit down, Paste. We have a lot to discuss."
Joey grabbed Pacey before he could sit. "No, we don't. Seth was just leaving. Right?" "I want to hear this," Pacey said as he pulled his arm away. "Go ahead, tell me."
"Well, I'll start from the start. Joey came into the cafe one day, complaining about her invisible boyfriend. 'He's like, never there.' I think those were your words, right, Joe?"
She stared at him. Tears began to form in her eyes. Seth fought the waves of guilt and continued.
"So, I suggested her and I spend some quality time. She agreed. We had sex a few times. Okay, maybe more than a few. And now she wants love? Love I'm not prepared to give. And now she wants a father for her child. And that father is you."
Joey stands, her hands shaking. "Pacey, I was," she was cut off before she began.
"You were what?!" Pacey screamed. He tried to stay calm, but he realized his hands were shaking. He felt as though his world had fallen apart in a matter of minutes. His voice became shaky and less angry. "You were going to tell me?" The words still came out bitterly.
"I was going to end it, Pacey! I swear! I would never hurt you on purpose." She reached for his hand, but he backed away from her.
Seth smiled. "I see my work here is done." He picked up his coat and walked out the door.
Pacey saw the look of sadness on Joey's face as she watched Seth leave. It broke his heart. *She wants him to be the father. Not me.* He felt tears welling up in his eyes. Joey turned to him.
"Pacey, I'm so sorry," she said. Pacey felt a few tears fall. He couldn't look at her anymore. He ran towards their bedroom. Joey tried to catch him before he slammed the door, but he was too fast.
He slid down the door, his back against it. Joey did the same on her side of the door. Pacey put his face in his hands, and broke down. He tried to hold back the sobs, but a few were so strong they shook his whole body.
"Pacey, please open the door." Joey was crying now, too. She knew Pacey was the father. She never had unprotected sex with Seth. She and Pacey had done that once. Of course, she had been on birth control, but it obviously hadn't worked.
"No," he choked out. "I... I .... can't believe...... you ..... you ..... did this.......to me." Now it was Joey's turn to have her heart break.
"Please! Please open the door!" Joey cried. "I love you, Pacey. I do. Please open the door."
Pacey wiped his eyes and opened the door. Joey smiled and tried to put her arms around him, but he didn't let her.
He began to take his clothes out of their closet. "What are you doing?" "Packing." She watched as he tossed her things to the floor. "Packing? Where are we going?"
"We are not going anywhere. I don't care where you go. As long as you don't follow me." "You're moving out. Pacey, please. We can work this out. I need you."
"Go bug your lover boy. I don't want to have anything to do with you."
With that, he grabbed the last of his things and was out the door before Joey could say another word.

In the hotel, Pacey's head was spinning. He didn't know who to call, or what to do, or where to go from here. Finally, an idea came to him.
Mr. Witter was pleasantly surprised to hear from Pacey. He didn't call often.
"Hello, Pacey. How are you?"
"Not so good." Mr. Witter could hear the emotion in his son's voice.
"What's wrong?"
"Dad, I feel really horrible asking for money from you. I know I don't call enough, but I..... I uh....."
"What's wrong? Why do you need money?"
"I uh. Joey and I broke up. It was real bad. I need to move, Dad. Get as far away from her as possible." He stopped. He thought if he said anymore he would start to cry again.
"Why? You can have the money, Pace, but I need to know why. Maybe I can help?"
"She was. She was. She was sleeping with another guy and now she's pregnant."
"Oh my. Wow. I'm so sorry, Pacey." *Joey Potter? Cheat on Pacey? Pregnant?*
"So am I. So, I can have some money? I'll pay you back as soon as I can. I promise."
"Yes. Yes. Where do you want to go? Are you going to come back to Capeside?"
"No. I can't. I was thinking really far. As in on the other side of the country."
"California?!"
"Yeah. That sounds almost far enough."
"Well, I guess. If that's where you want to go."
"Thanks, Dad. Really, thanks."
"Come to Capeside first. Please."
"Only for a little while. And never, never tell Joey or her family where I am."
"Okay. I won't."
"Bye, Dad. I'll see you soon."
"Bye, Pacey."

Joey held the red rose in her hand. She had been crying for hours. Calling every hotel she could think of. None of them had heard of a Pacey Witter.
She felt so sorry. She knew from the start what she had been doing was wrong. She loved Pacey. She had to get him back, somehow.
