Dawson, Joey, and Pacey are walking down the hall of Capeside High. They are headed towards the cafeteria. "Pacey, you going to join Joey and I at the movies tonight?" Pacey nods.
"Sure," Dawson suddenly slaps his own forehead.
"I forgot! I have to stay at my dad's until seven. Can you guys meet me there?" Joey squeezes his hand.
"Of course. Pacey'll give me a ride and we'll meet you there." Dawson smiles. Joey kisses him softly on the lips, just as two analytical sophomores walk by.
The girl stops and stares. "James? Why do seniors do that?"
The boy shakes his head. "Do what, Katie?" She motions towards Joey and Dawson, who are now kissing fool force.
"Make out in the halls."
"Oh that. Its quite simple actually. They feel they have to display to the world how far they can stick their tongues down each other's throats. If I'm not mistaken, it's some kind of competition among couples."
"Oh. I get it now."

Pacey and Joey are standing outside the theater, waiting for Dawson. "So, you excited to see the movie?"
Joey is standing on her tip toes, clearly not paying attention to Pacey, searching the parking lot.
"Joey? Hello?"
Joey looks over at him, startled. "Did you say something, Pacey?"
"Forget it."
Joey again searches the lot. Her eyes focus on two cars. She hits Pacey's arm. Pacey turns his attention to her. "What?"
"Looks like an accident. Oh my God!" She grabs Pacey's arm and pulls him with her, towards the two cars. As they get closer they both have the same, horrible realization.

Joey and Pacey are seated in a waiting room in the hospital. Joey's head is rested against Pacey's shoulder. She had been crying, and it showed. Mr. and Mrs. Leery were sitting a few chairs away, looking anxious and worried.
A doctor walks towards them all. "Dawson Leery?" They all nod weakly. He turns to the Leerys. "Are you his parents?" They nod simultaneously.
"I'm very sorry. Dawson has no brain activity. We're keeping him alive so you can say good-bye." Mrs. Leery bursts into tears and Mr. Leery cautiously comforts her.
Pacey felt tears welling up in his own eyes. He looked over at Joey only to see her blank unchanged expression. She asked shakily if she could go first. The Leerys oblige and Pacey follows her down the hall to Dawson's room.
