"I'm really happy she wanted to even be my friend so why ruin it with romance?" Pacey asked his roommate Jason. The two had been going over the details of his and Joey's mending of their friendship over the last half-hour.

"Because she's hot!" Pacey groaned.

"You don't think I know that? I've actually looked at her once or twice." Jason shook his head. Then he placed his hands on Pacey's shoulders.

"So why not go in for the kill, man? If she didn't already like you, I would have already asked her out." Pacey's jaw dropped.

"You think she likes me?"

"What are we in second grade? Of course she likes you. You really are blind, man. It must be the alcohol." Pacey playfully punched him.

"That reminds me," Pacey began. "If you ever see me pick up a drink again, proceed to kick the shit out of my stupid self. Got it?" Jason nodded.

"Sure. That's great, man because, uh, you're a real asshole when you're drunk. Come to think of it, you're pretty much an asshole all of the time so..." Pacey raised a hand to silence his friend.

"Spare me, Jay. It's just that I would loathe myself if Joey was to see me in that state again. I think once was enough to scar her for life."

"I'll drink to that." Pacey shot him a menacing look. "What'd I say?"

"Of course Bradbury has great ideas, Pace, he just tends to go off topic. Reminds me of Dawson. You know what I'm saying, he has to analyze every freakin' detail." Pacey groaned and covered his face with his hands.

"Farenheit 54 is a classic, Jo. Bradbury is famous for his amazing descriptions. That makes the whole book." He stopped walking for a moment. "And if he were anything like Dawson, I would absolutely agree with you. The book would suck."

Joey laughed and tossed her hair over her shoulder. "Enough! This is already a weird conversation for the two of us to be having."

"Why's that?"

"I just never pictured you as one who would enjoy discussing the great authors of the world. Especially not with me." Pacey feigned hurt.

"That was a low blow, Potter. I agree, the Pacey Witter you went to high school with would not participate in such an intellectual convo, but the Pacey Witter who hails from Boston, Mass does, in fact, enjoy delving into such a topic." Joey stared at him in disbelief. Although the Capeside trio always had a way with words, Pacey included, Joey had not ever expected to be blown away by one sentence from him. Not that he used any enormous words, but he had so quickly caught her up to speed with a part of his life that she had missed that she was speechless.

"What?" he asked self-consciously. She had been staring at him while her thoughts tried to process. She shook her head.

"Nothing. I'm just sorry I never met that Pacey Witter." He smiled.

"Oh, but you have." They stood motionless, staring into each other's eyes. "I'm right here." He took a small step closer to her.

"Yeah," she replied, immediately chiding herself for such a stupid remark. He took another small step and suddenly they were standing toe to toe. The tension was so thick Joey felt that she could barely breathe. Slowly, they leaned towards each other.

Joey watched in fascination as Pacey's eyes closed and his lips parted. She felt like a teenager again as she anticipated his lips on hers. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity their lips met. Joey let her eyes fall shut and lost herself if in his kiss.

Neither moved a muscle, aside from their mouths, and could no longer hear the voices of other students around them. People stopped to stare at the two. But their comments were never heard by Pacey or Joey.

Pacey opened his eyes and slowly pulled away from her, although he was still standing very close to her. "Wow," he breathed. His mind was still reeling over the intense kiss.

"Yeah," was her only reply. Once again they stared into the other's eyes. Both tried to figure out what the other was thinking. Neither could.

"You kissed her! I knew it! I knew it!" Jason shouted. He and Pacey were alone in their room.

"Yes, Jay, celebrate all you want, man. I don't really care. I just had the most intense kiss of my entire life, so just kiss my ass." Pacey couldn't stop the stupid grin that spread across his face.

"Was I really that good?" Pacey whipped around to see Joey standing in the doorway. Jason laughed. Pacey's expression had gone from triumphant to fatally embarrassed very quickly.

"Um, uh, well I," Pacey stuttered. He wanted to kill himself right then and there. How was it that she always managed to see him at his worst?

"Relax, Pacey," she said in as sexy a voice as she could. Her confidence was swelling at the sight of Pacey's red face. She turned to his hysterical roommate. "Would you mind giving us a little privacy?"

"Suit yourself," Jason replied as he exited. They were alone again and Pacey knew that he would have to kiss her again, just to prove himself. Well, not just to prove himself.

"The most intense kiss you've ever had, huh?" He nodded dumbly. "Damn, now why should I even bother to try and top that?"

"Because," he started. "I really want you to..." Pacey winced. *Now I've really stuck my head up my ass.* "I meant, why settle for only one?" Joey laughed.

"You're absolutely right. Now come over here and give me some sugar." Pacey grinned.

"Yes, ma'am." He moved so he was positioned directly in front of her and wrapped his arms around her waist. She kissed the hollow of his neck and then worked her way up to his lips. Pacey felt his heart began to race. Joey lifted her hand to the back of his neck and ran her fingers through his hair. The kiss was becoming even more electrifying than their first.

They pulled away and locked eyes. "I love you, Joey," Pacey said softly, closing his eyes again. He missed the look of shock and horror that crossed her face. He opened his eyes and was confused at her expression. Pacey opened and closed his mouth, trying to find the right words.

"Joey, I didn't mean," he began. Joey put a finger to his lips.

"Don't worry about it, Pace. I'm just gonna get out of here. See you later," she said as she backed out of the room. As soon as she was out of his sight Joey collapsed against the wall. "I love you, too."
